You took your phone out of your pocket and quickly checked your text messages. The one on top was from Nate

"Meet me at (restaurant address) at 8:00. See you there!"

It was five minutes before eight as you walked into the restaurant. You scanned the booths and tables looking for Nate. Finally, you spotted him sitting at a table against one of the walls. You walked over to him and he gave you a friendly smile.

"Hey!"

You said, sitting down across from him.

"Hi, y-you look great."

He said to you. You looked down at the blue dress that you were wearing. It wasn't very fancy, but it was still nice.

"Thanks, you do too."

You said, only now noticing that he was wearing a suit and tie. He was never dressed this formal, it made you wonder what he was up to.

"So, why did you invite me here?"

You said, looking through the menu.

"Oh, I-I just thought that it would be nice to go out for a fancy dinner for once."

Nate said, sliding his fingers through his hair.

"Yeah, it's nice to go out to eat once and a while."

You replied. The waiter came over to where you were sitting and you both ordered food. You both talked for a while and the food finally came. Extremely hungry, you began to eat your food. Nate looked at his for a while and took small bites. He seemed nervous about something, but you didn't know if you should ask why.

"Hey Nate, are you okay?"

You said. Nate sat up straight and smiled again.

"Yeah I'm fine, I'm just not really hungry."

You smiled back and then finished your food. Nate did the same. After a few more minutes, you got up to go to the bathroom. When you returned to the table, Nate looked even more nervous than before. He kept looking down at his feet. But, when he noticed that you were back, he looked back up.

"Y-Y/n, can I ask you something?"

He said, shuffling in his seat.

"Yes Nate, what is it?"

Now, even you felt a bit nervous. Nate let out a worried sigh and then continued to talk.

"We've been dating for a while now, and I-I like y-you a lot, but I don't want you to be my girlfriend anymore..."

The moment felt unreal. It hurt like millions of daggers in your heart. You didn't know how to react, everything felt awkward. Suddenly, Nate stood up and walked over to your seat. He kneeled down and pulled a small black box out of his pocket. He opened it to reveal a ring inside.

"...I want you to be my wife. Y/N L/N, will you marry me?"

His dark brown eyes looked into yours. He seemed less nervous now. The tears of sadness turned into tears of joy.

"Yes! Of course Nate!"

You said, kneeling on the ground next to him, embracing him in a hug. You both stood up still hugging.

"Don't scare me like that though, I thought you were breaking up with me."

You said with a laugh tears still in your eyes, Nate laughed back.

"Sorry. I was trying to think of something clever to sa-"

You cut him off, your lips touching his. You continued to kiss for a few more seconds before stopping. Your hands moved to his shoulders, his on your waist. Nate smiled at you.

"You've made me the happiest man in the world Y/N. Come on, let's go home."

You paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant, Nate by your side holding your hand. You both stayed silent on the walk home, but continued to hold each others hand, and you both still had large smiles on your faces. This was just the beginning of a new adventure for both of you.
