(Nate's POV)
We continued to trek through the field, sun not even close to rising yet. Y/n walked by my side, I could tell that she was just as exhausted as me.
The saturation fades and turns to gray. It's overcast with envy...
The sky was a dark grey, everything around us seemed lifeless. It was as if we were the world, everything around us gone. At this point, I had begun to think that that was the case. There hadn't been any signs of other life for a long time.
...Hands are reaching, pulling me away, and yet I'm still ascending...
It had been weeks, I could barely walk anymore. But I continued on anyway... for Y/n. If I went down, I knew that Y/n would go with me. We both tried to stay strong for each other. I began to drag myself up a steep hill, Y/n following close behind me.
...And I still, I still believe it. I feel it giving beneath my weight...
My feet were burning, my legs aching. Y/n let out a small groan and walked up the mountain with me. I flinched, I hated seeing her so miserable and lifeless.
...My day, my way will surface and see the sun...
In the distance, the sun had finally begun to rise, the sky was slightly brighter than before. Quickly, I whipped my head to the side, getting my hair out of my face. Maybe things were finally going to become positive.
...So follow me, to the ends of the earth. Now take a minute, and revel in it, and see how much you're worth...
Finally, I made it to the top of the first hill. I gazed down, holding out an arm for Y/n. She grabbed onto my hand and I pulled her up. We both collapsed, only held up by each other's weight. The sky became even darker than before, and raindrops landed on my head at times. All hope for a clear sunrise seemed lost. After a minute or two, I gained enough strength to stand back up.
...I'll fight and defend, I'll see this out 'till the end. So follow me to the ends of the earth...
The rain grew stronger, and I pulled my hoodie off, left in just a thin short sleeved shirt. I draped my hoodie over Y/n, trying to keep her dry. Y/n's eyes met mine and she let out a grateful smile. I tried to smile back as I looked around for some leaves and wood. Wind began to blow, making my bare arms freeze.
..Breaking down my walls, my lights, and doors, I'm making room for something...
Quickly, I stood two logs up, both of them supporting their own weight. It quickly toppled over and I let out a frustrated sigh as I grabbed another stick, my hands pulsing from the pain and cold.
...Stacking up the pieces one by one, I'll build it out of nothing...
After a few minutes of constant constructing, I was able to build a makeshift tent. It was small, but it was shelter... a place to stay until the rain cleared up. Y/n stood up and walked over to where I was. I moved out of the way so she could crawl into the shelter first.
...And I still, I still believe it. I feel it giving beneath my weight...
One more sigh escaped my body before I joined Y/n inside of the tent. Surprisingly, it blocked a lot of the rain. Y/n huddled closer to me and I wrapped an arm around her. Her head rested on my shoulder. Rain began to become stronger, leaves beginning to blow away, causing us to get more water than before inside of the shelter.
...But I'll survive the fight, so stay by my side...
Y/n sighed, I did as well, closing my eyes as I rested my head on hers. We both began to tremble from the cold. I tried my best to keep her warm by my side.
...So follow me, to the ends of the earth. Now take a minute, and revel in it, and see how much you're worth...
The rain came down stronger and stronger for a few minutes, then finally beginning to slow down. The sky became a lighter grey with slight tints of orange and pink. Once the rain had just about stopped, I stood up and crawled out of the tent.
...I'll fight and defend. I'll see this out 'till the end. So follow me, to the ends of the earth...
I stood up at stretched, my legs wobbling. Y/n pushed herself to stand up and we both continued onward to the next steep hill.
...We'll own the night, and the sun will still rise...
A few minutes passed and we finally made it to the top. Both of us were breathing heavily, both of our bodies were in terrible pain, but we made it. Y/n smiled and I couldn't help but smile too.
...The rain starts to cease and I can see clearly...
The rain became light, and soon stopped. I inched closer to the peak of the mountain, Y/n sitting down next to me. We looked down at the city. It looked still and quiet, just like everywhere else, but it was safe. It was home.
...So follow me, to the ends of the earth. Now take a minute, and revel in it, and see how much you're worth...
The sun had risen some more, turning the sky shades of orange and pink. Y/n looked into my eyes and smiled, relieved that we were almost there. I smiled back and wrapped an arm around her as we watched the sun rise some more.
....I'll fight and defend. I'll see this out 'till the end...
The sound of a door opening snapped me out of my imagination. Y/n was standing in the doorway, briefly looking at her phone for a second.
"What are you working on?"
She said, sliding her phone into her back pocket. I put down the pen that I was holding and looked down at the papers sitting in front of me, browsing through some of the lyrics quickly.
"Just working on a song for the new album."
I replied, pushing all of the papers into a somewhat neat pile. Y/N nodded with a smile and walked back to the living room. Once again, I looked down at the lyrics that I had written and smiled.
...So follow me, to the ends of the earth.
