Nate hopped out of the car and you followed him. The sun had already begun to set and the moon was shining bright in the distance. You both continued to walk for a few minutes until you had made your way farther back in the empty field.
"Is here okay?"
You said, glancing around the area where you had stopped. There were trees outlining the field where you were standing and tall grass blocking you from going any further.
"Yeah, this seems like a good spot."
Nate replied, unfolding the blanket that was in his arms. He threw it into the air and tried to straighten it out. You helped by pulling one of the corners out from underneath. Once the blanket was completely unfolded you sat down, kicking off your shoes which made them fly a few feet in front of the blanket. Nate did the same and sat next to you, slightly leaning on your side. You both watched as the sun finished setting, the clouds and sky going from orange to a dark blue, then fading to black. The moon had fully risen and stars became more visible. You looked to your side and saw Nate gazing up at the sky, the reflection of light from the moon making his dark eyes sparkle. It was almost hypnotizing, you didn't want to look away from him. Nate then looked your way, your eyes meeting for a split second. You quickly turned your head away but he had already seen you staring.
"I personally think that the stars are prettier than I am Y/n, take a look."
Nate said with a chuckle. You blushed and your face became red, but you listened to him anyway and looked up at the night sky.
"Wow, it is really beautiful up there, huh?"
You said, looking up at the stars twinkling above. Nate nodded his head and then laid down on the blanket. In your mind you debated to do the same, but before you had and answer, Nate pulled at your arm, trying to get you to lay down next to him. You rested your head on the blanket, inches away from Nate's, then looking back up at the sky.
"So, do you know any constellations?"
You said to him, trying to make out any shapes in the stars.
"Not really... umm..."
Nate began to say, then pointing up at a section of stars.
"That one seems important... maybe it's the big dipper or something."
You laughed, trying to see what Nate did.
"Sure... I guess I can see that Nate."
You replied, then locking your eyes on it to see a clearer image. Sure enough, he was right. After a few more minutes you sat up, grabbing your phone from the side of the blanket. Just as you were going to unlock it, Nate pulled you back to the ground, your head now resting on his chest. Your face quickly grew hot again.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Nate said, sarcasm in his voice as he slightly whispered into your ear.
"I was gonna look up some constellations so we can actually see something."
You said, then forgetting about your phone as you dropped it on the nearby grass. Instead, your focus went to Nate's steady heartbeat which was now clearly felt on the side of your head. You both just sat there for a few more minutes, becoming drowsier each second. You soon struggled to keep your eyes open due to the sound of Nate's heartbeat and soft breathing. However, you stayed awake, gazing at the stars with him in silence. It was both relaxing and made you feel closer to Nate than ever. It felt as if you two were the only ones in the whole world; all alone and engulfed in the wonder of the stars. Honestly, you didn't mind one bit, and Nate seemed like the perfect person to spend this time with. You went to sit up after more time went by but was stopped by Nate's arm around your waist. Only then did you notice that he was almost fully asleep. Trying not to wake him, you laid back down on his chest and gazed back up at the stars, taking in the beauty of it all.
