(11 Years Old, 6th Grade)

You sat on one of the swings in your back yard, swinging back and fourth, looking up at the sky. You closed your eyes and let out a relaxed sigh.

"Y/n!"

Someone yelled loudly, which made you jump. Quickly, you opened your eyes and stood up. After a few seconds, Nate ran into your yard and stopped in front of you, out of breath. He placed his hands on his knees, breathing heavily.

"What's wrong Nate?"

You said, worried. Nate looked up at you with tears forming in his eyes. He wiped them away and just looked at you for a few seconds. There was a look of sorrow and guilt in his eyes.

"I-I'm moving again Y/n."

As soon as he said those words, you began to tear up as well.

"Nate no! You can't leave! You're my only friend, I don't know what I'll do without you!"

You yelled, hugging him as you began to cry. Nate hugged you back, you buried your head into his shirt. It made you feel awkward, you and Nate had never been this close to each other.

"I'm sorry Y/n, I don't want to leave either, but I have to. "

He said. You let go of the hug and slightly backed away.

"W-when are you leaving?"

You said, your voice slightly shaking. Even though you didn't want to know the answer, you knew that you had to ask anyway.

"T-tomorrow morning."

Nate began to tear up again, but wiped his eyes before he could cry. You wiped your eyes as well.

"But that means I'm going to be alone next week at school... I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life!"

You sat down on the grass with your hands over your eyes and Nate sat next to you. He placed a hand on your back and pulled you closer to him. Nate still tried to smile at you. It helped, but you still didn't have enough strength to smile back.

"You're going to be fine Y/n."

"Nate you don't understand. You're the only person in the entire school that actually likes me. I don't think anyone else wants to be my friend!"

"Y/n you're not going to be alone, I promise. You just have to believe in yourself and talk to some people. They would all love to hang out with you. You're the coolest person that I know!"

Nate hugged you tightly. Neither of you said a word for a long time. The sun began to set, and you began to feel more and more tired. Nate stood up and you did too. Without saying anything else, you both walked back to your houses.

*time skip*

The sound of an alarm woke you up the next morning. Lazily, you checked the clock. It read 6:30.

"I get up earlier than this for school, why is it so hard to wake up all of a sudden?"

You whispered to yourself. You had woken up so early because wanted to be able to say goodbye to Nate one last time. You opened your curtains and looked out at the sky, the sun already slightly rising. You let out a yawn and got some clothes on. By the time the clock reached 7:00, you headed out the door and walked down the street. As you arrived at Nate's house, moving trucks came into view. You could see Nate's parents already packing the trucks with furniture and other items. Nate was sitting on the curb, kicking a rock across the street.

"Nate!"

You yelled, running towards him. He quickly looked up at you.

"Y/n!"

Nate said. He appeared to be happier than he was before, but only by a little bit. He stood up and wrapped his arms around you.

"I'm going to miss you so much Y/n.

"I'm going to miss you too Nate."

You replied, trying to hold back tears. Nate let go of the hug and reached out his hand, revealing the bracelet that he was wearing. It was black and had two charms attached to it. One was a small bulbasaur charm, the other was half of a pokeball. You held out your hand as well, revealing your bracelet with a pikachu charm, and the other half of the pokeball on it. Nate had given you the bracelet about a week after you two met, you both had worn it every day since then.

"We're always going to be friends Y/n, no matter how far away we are from each other, okay?"

Nate said as he weakly smiled, trying to make you feel better. You looked down at both of your wrists and reached for Nate's hand. Nate held onto his half of the pokeball, and you held the other piece next to it. After a few seconds, you both pulled your hands away.

"Nathan! We're leaving!"

You heard Nate's mom yell from the car. You started to shake. Nate looked at you with sadness in his eyes. He grabbed his half of the pokeball and held it in his hand.

"Bye Pikachu."

He muttered to you, still trying to smile, but all that came out was a weak grin. Tears started to fall down your face.

"Bye Bulbasaur."

Nate gave you one last 'I'm sorry' look and turned around to walked to his car, his parents already inside. The car then drove down the road, you watched until you were sure that it was out of sight. Clutching the pokeball charm in your hand, you turned around and walked back to your house.

"I'm gonna miss you Nate. Thanks for being the best friend I've ever had."

You whispered to yourself as you walked up to your front door. By now the sun had risen, but all you wanted to do was curl up in your bed and cry.
