The leaves crunched under your feet as you walked around the massive pumpkin field, looking around at which pumpkin you were going to get. Nate had come with you, and was walking around a few yards away, also looking around. There were a lot of people also looking for a pumpkin to take home, but they were farther away looking in other sections. The field was way too big to have everyone in the same spot.
"Nate, how about this one?"
You yelled to Nate as he walked over to you. He looked down at the pumpkin that you had picked out. It wasn't too big or too small, and seemed like it was going to be easy to carry.
"I like it, but I think I want mine to be a little bigger."
Nate said, as he appeared to be looking over your shoulder grinning.
"I like that one."
Nate said, walking past you and stopping at a pumpkin that was a few feet behind you. You rolled your eyes as you watched as Nate leaned on one side of a pumpkin. It was huge, it had to be at least two feet wide and tall.
"No, I don't think we can drag that home."
You said, laughing. You walked back over to the pumpkin that you had picked and lifted it up. You turned it over and brushed some of the dirt off of the bottom of it. Nate walked away from the giant pumpkin and picked one up near it. It looked like it was about the same size as yours.
"There, that works."
Nate said, wiping some dirt off of the sides of his pumpkin.
"Okay cool."
You said, walking over to the tiny stand a few yards away where you had to pay for the pumpkins. You bought both of them and Nate helped you carry them to the car.
You arrived home and placed both of the pumpkins on the kitchen counter, under some paper towels.
"Okay, let's carve these pumpkins."
You said, walking over to the drawer to grab some knives. Nate stood in front of his pumpkin and you handed him a knife. He took it and you took yours, beginning to cut into the top of the pumpkin. Nate did the same and you both pulled off the top of your pumpkins. You both set the knives aside on a paper towel on the other end of the counter and you began to scoop the seeds and pumpkin guts out. You held a clump of seeds and pumpkin guts out in front of Nate's face.
"Gross, get that away from me."
He said, placing it on the counter. You laughed and finished cleaning out the pumpkin. Nate finished soon after.
"Okay, we can carve them now."
You said, placing the top of the pumpkin back on. You walked over to the trashcan and dumped all of the pumpkin's insides into the trash. You then went over to the sink and washed the remaining seeds off of your hands. After grabbing two sharpies off of the counter, you walked back over to the pumpkins. You handed Nate a sharpie and you began to sketch out what he wanted to carve. You went for a traditional pumpkin, triangle eyes and nose with jagged pointy teeth. Nate put the marker on the counter and walked down the hallway to his room. He returned shortly after with his pumpkin mask from last year around his arm. It was the same one that he had used for his "What's This?" cover. You smiled, you liked that cover a lot, and surprisingly hadn't watched it yet this year. He held it up with one hand, drawing on the actual pumpkin with the other. Nate finished and you took the mask out of his hand, strapping it to his head. He looked at you and smiled for a second, then picking up the carving knife. He began to carve out one of the eyes, and then the other. You did the same with your pumpkin and then finished the nose and mouth. You and Nate both finished carving the pumpkins at about the same time and you both took a few steps back to admire your work.
"Your's is so much better."
You said to Nate, smiling.
"Thanks, but I like yours a lot too."
He replied. You turned around to look out the window. It was almost pitch black out, and you ran over to one of the kitchen cabinets. You took out two candles. They weren't real, they had a switch that turned them on and off, but they still looked nice. You flicked the switches to make sure that both of them still worked. You then lifted the top off of both pumpkins, placing the candles inside. You carried both pumpkins to the living room table and placed them side by side. They were surprisingly small enough to take up less than half of the table. Nate walked over to the light switch on the other side of the room.
"Ready?"
He said to you, his hand already on the switch.
"Yeah."
You replied as Nate turned on the lights. The pumpkins began to glow and light up the room. Nate walked back over to you and sat on the couch, you sitting next to him.
"They turned out great!"
He said, admiring both pumpkins. You smiled and looked at them too.
"Yeah, I love them."
You said as Nate wrapped one arm around you. You slightly blushed and rested your head on his shoulder, the relaxing orange glow coming from the pumpkins making you slightly tired.
