You woke up, your throat feeling extremely dry. You ignored it as you got up and walked to the kitchen, grabbing a water bottle out of the fridge. You twisted it open and took a sip, a small pain going through your throat as you swallowed. It made you flinch, and you took a few more sips of water, trying to get the pain away. No matter how much water you drank, your throat still seemed dry and scratchy. The sound of Nate's footsteps came from the other room, you listened as they came closer to the kitchen.
"Good morning Y/n."
Nate said, throwing his arms in the air as he stretched with a yawn. You opened your mouth to speak, but nothing came out. You tried again, concentrating as much as you could to get some words out. All that came out was a small wheezing noise followed by a cough that made your throat feel even worse. You wrapped one hand around your throat, your cold hand helping a little bit with the pain. Nate walked over to you, concerned.
"Are you okay Y/n?"
He said, worry in his eyes. You nodded, trying to make him feel better. You looked around the room, and walked over to a drawer near the kitchen. You opened it and pulled out a notepad and pen. You scribbled down some things and lifted it up so Nate could see. It read;
"I think I lost my voice :( I'm fine though don't worry about me Nate."
Nate read what was on the paper.
"Aw I'm sorry Y/n. Go back to bed, I'll take care of you today."
Nate said, already reaching for a tea cup in the cabinet. Quickly, you wrote down a few more words.
"You're the best. But really, I'm fine. It's just my voice that's all messed up."
You said with a laugh, which just came out as a small cough. Nate looked over at you, one eyebrow raised.
"You still want tea though, right?"
He said, waving the mug at you. You nodded, and Nate laughed.
"Okay, go get some rest, it'll be done in a minute."
You walked over to your bedroom and pulled some covers over you. Nate walked back in a few minutes later with a cup of tea.
"Here, this should help your throat."
He said, handing you the mug. You smiled up at him and took a few sips, then placing it on the nightstand. You went to reach for the paper to write "Thanks", but just as you were Nate's eyes widened as if he had just discovered the best thing ever. He then ran out of the room. You heard cabinets opening and closing, and the sound of paper rustling from the other room. Nate then ran back into your bedroom and began to scribble something on the notepad that he now had in his hand.
"I didn't want you to feel left out, I'll talk like this for the rest of the day too."
It read. You smiled and looked down at your paper.
"Thanks :)"
You replied on the paper. Nate smiled and looked back at his paper, writing more things.
"I have to go work on a cover right now, I'll try to check on you soon."
You nodded and smiled at him. Nate smiled back and then turned the paper back towards him. After a few seconds, he turned the paper back around to reveal a heart that he had drawn on it. You smiled again and drew a heart on yours too. Nate looked at it and let out a small laugh. He dropped the notepad on your bed and walked out of the room. You smiled and looked down at Nate's notepad that he had left on the bed. You could still see the heart that he drew, and it made you feel a lot better. You took one more sip of your tea and then shut your eyes, trying to get some rest.
