Tiredness had started to get the best of you, but you knew that staying awake was important. You slowly turned to the digital clock on the shelf. It read 11:40, 20 minutes until the new year. Nate was sitting by your side, no traces of tiredness on him. He was used to it, working for hours late at night on music. You however didn't usually stay up past midnight. Nate swiped through his phone, scrolling through twitter.

"Hey Nate,"

You said after a few minutes went by.

"Yeah?"

He replied, his eyes still on his phone.

"Do you have any New Year's resolutions?"

Nate glanced over at you.

"I want to get my original album out there, including physical copies. That's my main goal for 2017. How about you?"

You sat there in silence for a few seconds, realizing that you hadn't thought about a resolution yet.

"I honestly don't know."

You said with a small laugh. Nate smiled back at you and placed his phone next to him.

"So, about ten minutes until midnight, this year went by pretty fast."

You said. Nate nodded in agreement. The tv in front of you both was turned to the channel that had the ball drop live from New York. You thought back to past years. You always watched this channel on New Year's with your family. Nate had asked you to move to LA with him this year, so spending this time with him was new to you. However, you were still excited. One thing that stood out to you every year on tv was at midnight, when the cameras switched between people sharing a midnight kiss, and every year you had no one to do it with. This year was no exception. Even though you desperately wanted to be with Nate, you were sure that he only liked you as a friend. Yet another year without a boyfriend. A small sigh escaped from you, making Nate turn to face you again.

"What's wrong?"

You sat up straight with an awkward smile.

"Nothing, just a little tired.."

You said reassuringly, your face hot.

"Okay, hang in there, only five minutes."

Nate said back to you. You sunk back into your seat and watched the clock. Before you knew it, there was only 15 seconds until 2017. Nate stood up and pulled you along with him, keeping his arm around your shoulders.
"Come on Y/n, count down! 10..."

Nate said, in unison with the crowd on the TV. You joined in.

"9! 8! 7! 6!"

At the six second mark, Nate turned you to face him. He seemed slightly nervous. Both of his arms wrapped around your sides, pulling you in closer. Your faces became only inches away.

"5...4...3...2....1..."

Nate softly said with a grin, making his lips touch yours. You were too stunned to move, only able to wrap your arms around Nate. The sound of people screaming on the TV became faint, you only wanted to concentrate on Nate. After a few seconds, Nate pulled away, his grin even bigger. With his arms still around you, he looked into your eyes.

"2017 is gonna be great."

He said with a smile, still with a calm tone. You smiled back, your face slightly hot. You knew that Nate was right, 2017 had a lot in store for both of you.
