Love was a subject avoided by many, especially immortal, prideful, cocky, arrogant gods who had rained hell upon Earth.

Loki Laufeyson was thought to be incapable of love. He was narcissistic, a dick - though, to be fair, a lovable one - and he was the most irritating person - or god - ever. He constantly played tricks on people, and they weren't petty such as buckets of water falling on your head, they were huge pranks that almost destroyed the building more than once and caused a power outrage throughout the whole city of New York.

His ability to screw your day up was uncanny and he took pleasure in seeing the suffering of others unfold before his very eyes. Even his mother thought no one could capture his heart, and even if that person did, she was sure that the poor woman wouldn't return his feelings.

Then you came along.

You were a SHIELD agent and a close friend of Jane Foster, so when Jane visited the tower for Thor, you came along as well. You had heard of Loki, and how he almost destroyed New York City. You weren't looking forwards to meeting him, but he shocked you by his witty remarks and sarcasm. He was indeed rude, but he was also quite amusing and lovable in his own unique way.

You began to visit the Avengers more often, not because of Thor or for Jane, but because of Loki. In a turn of events that took the Avengers and SHIELD by storm, you befriended the unlovable Loki, and actually made him a decent person.

Loki admired you. Something about you drew him to you. Maybe it was your fiery spirit, or your kindness towards others, or perhaps it was your strength. Either way, he saw you as his only friend on this Earth, which was a lot coming from the god. Still, he didn't think there was anything romantic between the two of you. He felt an attraction towards you, but he always thought that it was merely friendship and nothing more.

Until one day, it all changed.

Loki couldn't believe his ears.

Minutes ago, he was told that you went missing during a rescue mission, and he was still trying to process the information. His brother feebly attempted to comfort him, and the others gave him sympathetic looks, but he didn't want their sympathy. He wanted you.

He disappeared to his room and fell to his knees, and then all hell broke loose. Furniture and objects were thrown, walls crumbled, the whole building shook as it suffered the wrath of the Asgardian.

He began to laugh bitterly. "Is this what the Midgardians call karma?" he asked himself, shaking his head.

Underneath all that violence though, was a broken heart. He couldn't stand the thought of losing you, his best friend. His only friend. You were the reason he didn't destroy the tower and kill everyone in it. You kept him in check. Now that you were gone, everything fell apart.

Loki was scared. He was so scared. Never had he been so frightened in his life. He began remembering all the memories he shared with you, from the first time he met you to the last time he saw you. The memories tortured him as he relentlessly tore the tower apart.

Over the course of the next few days, his condition grew worse. He found himself missing you more than he initially thought. He missed your smile, your voice, your laugh, everything. He came to realize that perhaps he did feel something more. He realised that he cared for you as more than just a friend, and he hated himself that it took him so long to come to that conclusion.

For over a month, you were missing, and Loki was suffering. No one had seen the god in so much pain, and all came to realise he did love you as well. However, nothing could mend his heart. Only you can, and you were still missing.

Loki prayed for your return everyday. He wanted to go and look for you, but even with his magic he couldn't find you. It was as if you disappeared from this realm. There were so many things he regretted as he panicked upon knowing that he didn't have the ability to find you. His biggest regret though, was not telling you that he loved you and not spending every single moment showing you your worth.

It was a regular weekday for the Avengers. From taking care of HYDRA to filing reports, they were all occupied. However, Tony then received a call from Fury, who had unbelievable news.

You had been found, and not only that, you were currently at SHIELD headquarters.

Tony rushed to give Loki the news, and when it reached his ears, Loki could hardly believe it. He instantly made his way to SHIELD headquarters and demanded to see you, despite the fact that you were currently in the infirmary getting your wounds checked.

He burst through the doors, startling the occupants of the room and you. He stared at you for a moment, relishing the fact that you were alive, in front of him.

"Loki!" you exclaimed, a beautiful smile appearing in your lips, "hey-"

Loki cut you off by giving you a desperate kiss, catching you completely by surprise. In all honesty, you had always harboured feelings for your best friend, but you never acted upon it in fear of ruining what you already had.

"Oh wow, um, okay." you stammered once he pulled away. He engulfed you in a tight hug.

"Don't you dare disappear on me again." he whispered into your ear. You closed your eyes and sighed, feeling at home around his arms.

"Well, at least it did some good." you chuckled, referring to the kiss earlier. You felt Loki tense, as if only realising what he had just done moments ago, causing you to laugh even more.

"Don't worry, I love you too."
