I yawn loudly, stretching my limbs above my head. For once, this morning, I wake to the the sound of soft snores coming from Tobias. I slide out of his grip and retreat to the bathroom, I brush my teeth and hair, then wash my face. I grab my phone from the dresser and tip toe downstairs, making sure that I don't wake up my sleeping boyfriend. I collapse on the couch and see that I have a missed call from Christina, "Hello?" She answers groggily when I call her.
"Hey, Christina. You called me?" I pick at the strings of fringe that hangs from the throw pillows on the couch.
"Yes, I was just calling to check up on you," Silence is herd throughout the line and she sighs, "I wanted to tell you last night that we had to go to the hospital, Matthew was in a bad car accident." My heart falls into a pit that has just formed in my chest. Matthew is now considered one of my good friends, he makes me laugh and checks on me when Tobias is busy. He's funny and a great friend to have.
"What? Is he okay?" I sit up, my feet touching the white fluff of the carpet, my toes squeezing the wool between my toes.
Christina lets out a breathy sigh and says, "He's fine, a mild concussion. They said he was trying to get home, his tires slipped on the ice here making his car ram into the tree and nearly flip it. He was truly blessed when they did his examination, he was conscious when they found him. Just very confused." I bite my lip and make my way to the kitchen, starting a pot of coffee, "He got released around 9 this morning, other than a few cuts and a bruised eye, he's fine."
"Thanks for telling me, Chris." I sigh, leaning against the counter-top, watching the dark liquid fall from the top of the machine, "I'm going to call him now." I bid my goodbyes and look for the contact of Matthew. I feel a pair of strong arms wrapping around my waist and I nearly jump ten feet in the air, my heart hammers against my chest and Tobias lets out a low chuckle against my neck.
"Who are you going to call?" He questions, leaning against the counter. I turn around to face my boyfriend who still looks tired, but handsome at the same time.
"Matthew," I furrow my eyebrows, "He's been in a horrible car accident, and got discharged at 9. The doctors said that ice, rest, and the medication he prescribed will be great for him to recover, since it's not that bad." I find my contacts and dial his number, walking to the living.
Light snow coats the ground, and gray covers the sky, no sign of sunlight near. I pull my legs up against my chest, listening to the dial tone while looking out the window in the club chair, "Hello?" His voice is groggily when he answers the phone, I frown and sigh. I can just imagine him laying in his bed, not a peep coming from him. . . no silly comments.
"Hi Matthew! How are you?"
He let's out a dramatic sigh and I chuckle, "Better now that you called--"
"--Oh Matthew, don't be such a flirt." I joke, my spirit being lifted now that I hear his whimsical voice.
"Don't say that with your boyfriend around, he might reach his large and scary hands into the phone, choking me. I really won't be the miracle everyone thinks."
I laugh lightly, shaking my head as Tobias walks in with firewood in his hands, "He wouldn't do that," I mutter, "How are you really feeling? Tell me all about it?"
"Well, I was on the way to my house. I just got off of work, and I was doing the speed limit, but I'm assuming the speed limit needed to be adjusted since there was ice on the road. . . I didn't know that until I hit the tree. They said the car slipped on the black ice that was on the road, and I lost control. What made it worse was that I hit the gas instead of hitting the breaks since I was in panic mode." He sighs, "I just remember arriving at the hospital and people touching all over me. I was flattered, but I would have at least like to have my underwear on. I'm fine though, even though the doctor's protested for me to stay in another day. I told them I was fine and my charts read so too. But, Tris, I'm fine. All of your friends were at the hospital visiting me. . . I'm so honored!" He fake sniffles and I laugh.
I stare at the now burning wood, smiling at Tobias as he goes back into the kitchen. . . he's like a jealous puppy, when you show love to another dog their jealous. I just don't like when he takes it out on me, "Sorry I wasn't there. I'm on vacation with Four, it's really nice out here. But, when I get back I promise I will pay you a visit!"
"Okay, thanks for calling. But, I'm very tired."
"Understandable, bye."
"Bye."

I step inside the steamy shower, wrapping my arms around Tobias' back. I kiss along his tattooed back, seeing the representation of the traits he wants to be. George did a good job of choosing pictures of everyday things that we never look at. Like, flames for being brave, balance scales for honesty. It was something great to choose that hides the pain Marcus caused.
"Are you okay?" I ask as the scent of his old spice soap fills the bathroom, making my knees weak, "What's wrong?"
Tobias lets out a little chuckle, "I'm fine, I don't have anything to be upset about." Tobias turns around and gives me a smile, he lifts my hand up and kisses along my tattoo sleeve. He grabs my other hand and kisses my wrist before pecking my ravens on my collard bone, "I love you, only you." He grabs my face in between his hands and slams his mouth against mines.
I wrap my arms around his neck while he lifts me up and presses my back against the cool, smooth, stone, I pull away from his minty mouth and give him a smile, "I love you too, only you." I reassure him, giving him a look. Even though Tobias sucks at sharing his feelings, I just know what's wrong with him. I want him to know that I love him, not Matthew, not Uriah, not Zeke, not Will. Only my Tobias who will do anything for me. Tobias fits his mouth to mine and I melt into his touch.
