During the course of the next few weeks, Reese was watching Grace a lot more closely. The only time she didn't have the book seemed to be at night. Instead of stealing the book, Reese hoped her friend would just tell her what it contained.
"Grace, may I ask you something?" Reese questioned as her and Grace walked towards their Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
"What is it?"
"You know that diary you're always carrying around?"
"Diary?"
"The blue one."
"Oh, you mean my journal! What about it?"
"Wait, it's not a diary?"
"No of course not! Why would I need to write about my day?"
"Right, well, what's in it then?"
"That's really none of your concern."
"Grace, I'm your best friend! You can tell me."
"I'm not telling you."
"Why?"
"Because it's none of your business."
"But Grace-"
"Forget about it! Besides, why be interested in it now? Why not last year?"
"Uhh.... Just wondering."
"Oh please, I'm sure you and the twins have something planned with it."
"What makes you think that?"
"I know you Reese! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go learn something from Professor Lockhart!"
"What has he ever taught us?" Grace rolled her eyes and walked away.
"See you there, Reese." Reese stood there as Grace walked away. Grace's honey colored hair bounced on her back as she walked.
"Plan B then."
Defense Against the Dark Arts was a disaster really. Professor Lockhart seemed to have no interest in teaching the kids anything. He just rambled on about himself.
"Professor." Reese inquired in class. Lockhart stopped talking and looked at the girl.
"What is it Miss Wells?"
"My last name is Warren."
"That's what I said."
"No you didn't! You said–whatever! Are you going to teach us something?"
"I am, right now."
"You're not."
"Do you not want to learn about my great adventures?"
"Professor, I couldn't care less about your 'achievements.' Because I highly doubt this will help us fight against dark arts. I'm quite sick and tired of hearing about you. Please, teach us something helpful!"
"That's no way to talk to your teachers Miss Warren."
"Good thing you aren't a teacher!"
"Reese." Grace muttered silently.
"Teachers actually teach students about the subject! You're just an excuse for one! I'm fourteen and I'd probably make a better Professor!"
