I walked into the precinct with a cup of coffee in one hand and a box of donuts in the other.
"Donuts?," I asked Rollins when I got there.
"I'm good," she said but eyed the box.
"Come on, they're freshly made," I coaxed.
She smiled as I opened the box. "Just one."
Liv walked into the squad room just then. "Donuts?"
"Want one they're fresh?," I opened the box for her to pick one.
"You shouldn't have," she laughed.
I grabbed one for myself before putting them on the table for everyone else to take.
At my desk I was starting my daily paperwork when a young girl stepped into the room.
"Can I help you?," I spoke up.
"Um, yeah," she sat down at the chair that was by my desk. "I was assaulted."
I got out a pad of paper. "Take your time, dear. Do you know who assaulted you?"
"It was my family priest. And I think he's done this to other kids too."
This was bad, like the whole team needed to hear this, bad. "Ok. What's your name, dear?"
"Riley Jansen."
"Riley. Would you feel more comfortable if we moved this to a quieter room?"
"Yes, please," she looked so nervous and her hands were shaking. I bet I'm the first person she's told.
We walked over to the interrogation room that is next to Liv's office. "Ok. I'm gonna go get my lieutenant really quick. She's really nice and she'll want to ask you a few questions, is that ok."
She gave me a nod.
I left the room and knocked on Liv's door.
"Come in."
I walked in, closing the door behind me. "There is a young girl in the interrogation room. She says she was assaulted by her family priest and she believes that he's done it to other kids."
Without missing a beat she stood up. "Let's go."
"He would touch me. Inappropriately," Riley began to explain slowly.
"Where would he touch you, dear," Liv asked softly.
"Down there, my legs, and my chest."
I was disgusted but I kept my resolve. "Have you told your parents?"
She shook her head. "They think I'm at a friend's house right now."
"Honey, you said earlier that you believe he's doing this to other kids?," Liv spoke up.
"Kids stay away from him. I see some cry in the bathrooms after class with him."
Liv looked at me. "Where is the church your family goes to?"
"Saint Petersburg."
"Another 'Priest touching kids' case," Sonny ran a hand through his hair. "This is ridiculous."
I was mad. Kids need to be protected, not harassed. We were walking around the church looking for our suspect.
"We're looking for Father Vincent."
He looked over at me. "You ok?"
I shook my head. "We have to get this guy."
We walked down the halls until we saw a nun walking around the corner. "Excuse me, Miss?"
She smiled and came over to us. "Looking to get married, dears?"
My face warmed up and when I looked up at Carisi his face was just as pink as mine.
"Yes! We are!," I grabbed Sonny's hand and pulled him closer to my side. "We're planning it for next Sunday and we've heard great things about one of your priests."
It took Sonny a beat but he looked down at the nun with a smile. "Yeah. Father Vincent was highly recommended."
"Oh," the nun looked down but then she plastered a smile on her face. "I'll take you to him."
Arm around one another, Sonny and I followed the little lady. We kept whispering to each other and looking around at everyone. There were a few kids walking the halls.
"Does the church have Sunday school?," I asked.
"Yes we do."
"Oh! That will be great for the kids! Right dear?," Sonny looked down at me.
I almost laughed. "Yeah, it will be great."
The nun looked at us grimly. I could tell she knew what was going on in this place.
"Let me just go in and check if he's in his office," she left us alone in the hall.
We were still holding hands until I remembered we were still holding hands. I let go and tried to hide my blush by looking at my phone.
He cleared his throat. "That was quick thinking, Garcia."
I nodded to myself. "Thanks."
He sat down on the bench and took out his phone as well. There it was, tension.
The nun came out, just as I was about to sit next to Sonny so I grabbed his hand and placed my head on his shoulder. "He's in his office. You can go in."
We got up.
"Thank you so much," I shook her hand.
"May the Lord bless you with many children," she gripped my hand a bit hard. As if she was trying to warn me.
We walked in to the priest's office. It was a plain enough room, crosses on the wall, pictures of Sunday school classes, and a desk by the wall. He stood up as we entered. I could sense it from him, like a disgusting smell around him. He was guilty. The kids here were in danger.
"Hello! Welcome to Saint Petersburg! I hear you two are looking to get married!," he was all smiles.
Sonny and I nodded to each other before pulling out our badges.
"Actually Father Vincent we're here because we've heard reports about child abuse," I spoke harshly.
"Oh my," the priest was startled. "Who could it be? All of our fathers and sisters get background checked."
I wanted to roll my eyes.
"Well can we get a list of your staff? Sometimes people can get a job while avoiding the system," Sonny stepped in before I could retaliate.
"Of course!"
