I asked the concerned, Mrs. Frisa, to come down so that I could get her statement. When she arrived I could tell that she was nervous so I got her a cup of water to help.
"Is there somewhere private we could go?," she asked when she saw one of the cops throw a guy into lockup.
"Of course," I grabbed my file and showed her to a quieter room. Once I closed the door she started talking quickly.
"I need you to hurry after I tell you everything, can you do that?"
I nodded. "I'll try my best. Now tell me what's going on. Are you in danger?"
She shook her head. "This isn't about me. This is for the girl in my music class, I believe she's being abused by her father."
I gulped feeling something squeeze hard around my throat. "Go on."
"She has marks on her arms and when I talk to her she looks down and sometimes flinches. She's really good at dodging questions and she talks to the school's counselor. She runs out of class sometimes because she has panic attacks."
My heart squeezed more and suddenly I felt as if there wasn't any air. "Anything else I should know?"
"She has a twin sister as well. You might want to talk to her too."
After I thanked her for coming in I ran to the bathroom to cry.

Sonny and I went to the girl's house to question them. When I knocked on the door I could feel my heart race due to my nerves and something about this case that made it feel personal. When their father answered the door I suddenly felt so small.
"What do you want?," he asked roughly.
"We're here to ask your daughters a few questions," Sonny held his badge up and so did I.
"Camila, Andreea!," he barked out for them. I really wanted to get them out of this man's grip as soon as possible.

I repeated everything the teacher said to the squad and we came to the conclusion that the father could be violent. We all came up with a plan to help get the girls out of the house safely without raising the father's suspicion.

The girls came to the front door, eyes down.
"Well, here they are," their dad gripped each one of their shoulders.
"We would like to ask you two some questions down at the station, if that's ok," I spoke to them softly while avoiding the father's gaze.
They nodded and headed back inside to grab their coats.
"What's this about?," the father was already getting irritated we needed to move fast.
"There was an incident concerning a teacher at the school, we need to ask your daughters if they know anything," Sonny spoke with ease.
"You can ask them whatever you want but I'm their guardian. I need to be present, don't I?," he spat.
"We're just asking them to recount their day, won't take long. They'll be back in time for dinner," I gave the girls a small smile once they came back into view.
The dad grumbled something then walked away. "Drop them off will ya?"
"Will do, sir," Sonny waved him away.
We closed the door behind the girls and talked to them quickly.
"Are you two in danger? Do you want us to arrest him?," I talked quickly while we walked over to the car.
They looked to each other, relief clearly written on their faces, and nodded. We already had cops set up in front of the house and in the back, in case the dad tried to run, we just needed to get the girls out safely. We gave the go ahead and drove off with Camila and Andreea before their father could see them.

We put the girls in the room next to Liv's office. I felt sick to my stomach so I ran to the bathroom to throw up. I started crying again from the looks the two girls gave me when we told them we were there to help them when I heard the door open a little bit.
"Hey, Maia, you ok?," Sonny asked concern in his voice.
"I'm never drinking again," I joked so that he would go away.
He laughed a bit. "Liv says she wants you to question the girls with her."
"Ok, I'm coming." I splashed water on my face and made sure I looked fine before heading out.

The whole time Liv and I asked questions about the abuse they held hands, Camila was the eldest so she had her arms around Andreea to console her. They told us everything about this evil man and what hit me the most was the fact that he raped Andreea when she was little. This case seemed to hit close to home, too close.
"He hits me sometimes, but he hurts Andreea more," Camila spoke up. "He always seems to get to her when I'm out at the store or something comes up at school."
I needed to throw up again but I held it down.
"Would you two be willing to let us photograph your wounds?," Liv asked.
They said yes to that.
"We also need you to do a rape kit, Andreea," I added in.
She agreed.
