"For our next session, I believe you should bring your dog in. You seemed anxious and I think having someone in here with you, that's not going to judge you, would be extremely helpful," Dr. Wilson walked me to the door. "Thanks, doc, again this means so much," I gave her a smile. "I'm glad. Please, get some rest, it sounds like that cold is not going let up anytime soon." "I will," I lied to her about why my voice sounded so rough. I guess we'll cross that "lying to your doctor isn't good" bridge when we get to it. I walked into the lobby and ran into Ella's arms, crying. The doctor was so nice and patient with me, I needed to get things off of my chest and hopefully, she will help me with that. "Let's go get me a pup," I whispered to Ella as we walked out.
We got to the dog shelter in a matter of minutes. "I'm so excited!" "I know you've said it at least ten times on the way over here," El replied. We walked in and told the front desk clerk that I wanted to adopt a dog. He led us to the back where they held them. My heart just melted, there were so many I wanted to take everyone home. "Come back to the front and let us know what you decide," the clerk walked away and so we started walking around. So many pups, so little space in my apartment.

It didn't take long for me to find a pooch that really spoke to me. Her name is Zen. "She's the one," I whispered softly. She looked up at me and sniffed, coming forward to smell my hand. Once she got a sense of who I was her tail started wagging. I laughed a little at her giddiness and my own. "Wait here," I took off to the front desk and told the clerk that Zen is the one for me. I gave him my ID and the fifty dollar fee they asked for. I would've dropped a thousand if that meant taking her home.
"I'm glad she's finally being adopted," the guy said pulling out her file. "Was she here long?," I asked. "She's been here ever since she was a pup. Everyone adopted her brothers and sisters but she never was because and I quote "she's too lazy." My heart broke in two. "That's crazy she's so much more." He nodded and handed me her medical history and a certificate. "I'm glad she's found a friend." He walked back to the back room to go get her. "She's so precious," I told El when she came over to me. "Yeah. Seeing all of those pups just really makes me want to adopt them all," she sighed. "Same." I started to tear up when the doors opened and she came through. She ran to me and jumped into my arms when I crouched to her level. She was licking my face and I was giving her kisses. "Have a safe trip home you three," the guy gave us a smile and a wave.
We went to the nearest pet shop to buy everything I would need for Zen. A bed, toys, food, bathroom pads, and even clothes. "This hat is so cute! You have to get it!," El was spoiling her as much as I was. Zen was so happy she had a smile on her face the entire time.
Once we got home, Ella started packing her makeup bag for the show tonight. I set up Zen's bed right next to mine, when I went to check on her she was fast asleep on the little loveseat I had. I put the TV on low and put in a movie to watch. "Do you want me to drop you there?," I asked Ella before she headed out. "No, it's ok, I ordered a Lyft. Stay here and drink up that tea," she walked over to me and pulled me in for a hug. "Have fun," I wished her luck. "Thanks."
I was making myself a bowl of ice cream when there was a knock on my door. I looked to see Sonny standing there with another bag in his hand. I opened it with a grin on my face. "Hey, Sonny." "Hey, Maia. I've brought my mother's famous chicken soup, as promised," he held the bag up to show me. "Nice, I'll put it on the stove," I let him in and went to the kitchen. "Hey, you're talking," he pointed out as he took off his coat. I shrugged. "I'm a rebel." He laughed at my joke. I put my bowl of ice cream away and set the soup in a pot to boil. "So how was work," I asked him. "We've found two members of the gang so far, there are still others but we've made progress." I nodded. "How about you? Did ya get a dog?" I smiled and grabbed his hand to lead him to the living room where Zen was sleeping. "She's sleeping right now but she's such a sweetie." As I said Zen was fast asleep on the couch, her soft snores made Sonny laugh. He smiled down at me. "She looks sweet." I blushed and dropped his hand, making my way back to the kitchen. "Almost forgot, the squad says to get well soon. That we're completely lost without you at SVU," he put a hand over his heart. "That's so nice. I can't wait to get to work, honestly. I love being home too much," I poured myself a bowl. "Do you want some?" He shook his head. "No, thanks. I will take some of that ice cream I saw though." I grinned and grabbed the bowl I made and placed it before him. I grabbed us some spoons and we ate. We talked about work some more and watched a movie. Zen had woken up and went over to Sonny to lay in his lap. He rubbed behind her ears and she fell back to sleep. It was late when Sonny said he had to get going. He gave me a hug before heading out. I closed the door and started jumping around the living room with glee.
