The next morning I woke up to the sound of my ringtone going off. My mom's smiling face lit up the dark room, with a sigh I answered.
"Good morning, amores!," she sang loudly.
"Morning, ma," I smiled as I sat up in bed. "What are you up to?"
"I just dropped your brother off at work. How about you?"
"Getting ready for work too."
"Órale. I'll let you go then. Say hi to that detective you like for me."
"Ma, stop."
She laughed before hanging up. Just as she did I got a call from Carisi.
"Yeah?"
"We got a new case, doesn't look good. We'll need you to come to the hospital as soon as you can," he spoke uneasily.
"On my way."
I dressed quickly and grabbed a sandwich I made last night before taking off.

When I got there the whole squad was there waiting outside of a room.
"What's going on?," I asked.
"Our vic was brutally attacked last night. They found him in time, doc says he's gonna make it," Fin told me.
I nodded. "The parents?"
"On their way," Liv spoke up. Everyone looked tired and grim, this wasn't gonna be a good case.
"They checked his body and found tearing and traces of semen. They also found DNA underneath his nails," Rollins walked over to us after talking to the doctor.
"Hopefully the parents get here soon so that we can ask them a few questions," Sonny looked around.
"There's more. In his backpack, where we found the ID, were hormone treatments. The tearing and bruising was in and near his vagina."

A hate crime. That's what this is. After our last case I needed to keep my emotions in check, I didn't need Liv sending me home or taking me off this case. Thankfully, the parents arrived. We let them see their son first before asking Eli and them any questions.

"Detectives Garcia and Carisi will be outside waiting for your son to wake up," Liv reassured the parents.
They were scared for their son's life so they were reluctant to go get some breakfast.
"We'll call you as soon as something changes," I consoled them.
They thanked me before walking away. I sat down next to Sonny and rubbed at my face.
"Hey, you alright?," he asked.
"Yeah, need coffee, is all."
"We'll stop on the way back for some."
"Sounds good."
Just then Eli's heart monitor started going off. I shouted for the parents who were just about to leave and for nurses to come help. Eli was panicked and scared so he started to yell.
"It's ok, Eli. Mommy's here," his mother started to soothe him. "Dad's here too."
His dad walked over to him, grabbing his hand. They hugged him which helped Eli calm down. Poor kid, must be scared. We left the room so that the parents could talk to their son. Once he was settled in they let Liv and myself come into the room.
"Hey, Eli. Is there anything I can get you?," I asked.
He shook his head. "No thank you."
Now that I got a good look at him I could see the changes from the hormones already happening. There was some hair above his lip, chin, and the sides of his cheeks. His eyebrows were bushy as well, as time goes on he's gonna be a very handsome young man. "We want you to know that if at some point you feel uncomfortable just say so."
He nodded.
"What's the last thing you remember from last night," Liv began.
"Walking home, someone grabbing me, getting hit, fighting back. They had a mask on. He was tall and muscular."
"You're doing great," his mom added.
"Then he punched me so hard I knocked out. That's all I remember so far."
"Do you know anyone who could be responsible for this?"
"My ex-boyfriend, Brian. He's the only one I can think of."
