(In light of Raúl Esparza's decision to leave Law and Order I thought I'd put an extra chapter out for you all. I know I'm hurting😭)
*Sonny's POV*
"You should have stayed behind, Carisi. You know how girls get when they see scary movies," Fin talked to me as we headed up to the office after dropping Fred Nerros off at Rikers. I told him what happened last night and he put two and two together.
"Not her. She loves them."
Fin looked at me. "Still you had an opening for something and you blew it."
I groaned. "I know but her friend was there so it wasn't like I could really make a move."
Fin nodded. "Well keep your head up. There'll be plenty of opportunities."
I was walking away when I remembered a piece of advice he gave me when I first arrived to SVU. "Weren't you the one who told me not to take anyone from this job home with me?"
He shrugged. "This is different."
I frowned at his blunt statement. "What does that mean?"
Before he could answer though, Maia walked in with muffins for everyone, the girls not far behind her.
"You won't believe this, there was an order that fell through so they gave 'em to us," she was smiling brightly as she put them down. "Help yourselves."
"They just gave em to you?," I asked as I took one for myself.
"Yeah, the guy was really nice," Andreea came in with her sister, Camila.
"Some luck," Fin gave me a wink when Maia wasn't looking.I was on her Facebook page last night to see what other hobbies she likes so that could get me an opening for a date or a conversation. She likes movies, music, reading, writing, and art. If she liked the arts so much, why was she here? Shouldn't she be writing books or teaching art to kids at a school? I delved further into her page and could see a few pictures of her family. Her mom remarried and her brother worked. She rarely posted on here so there wasn't much to go by.
*Maia's POV*
When I brought the girls in they ran into the arms of their aunt when she exited Liv's office.
"My girls! I'm so sorry," she cried out.
They were all crying so I escorted them to a room so they could catch up. When I walked out Liv was waiting for me so that we could talk.
"How did it go with Barba?," she asked while taking a seat behind her desk.
"Good, good. They understand what could happen and answered all of the questions strongly," I took a seat as well.
"That's good to hear."
I looked down. "Did their aunt say anything?"
"She said she never knew about her brother being this way. She says that he was a tough kid and played rough sometimes. Their father would beat them so she thinks that's why he is the way he is."
I shook my head. "That doesn't mean you have to be like your parents. You can break the cycle."
She nodded. "I see it all the time here. Kids becoming like their parents. There's only a handful that break through."Camila and Andreea's aunt took them to the hotel she was staying at. They asked me to take them to their house tomorrow so that they could pack before they moved, they were gonna move to Wisconsin to be with the rest of their family. I agreed. On my way out Liv told me that the DNA from the father matched in the rape kit. I felt sick to my stomach. This case was pushing me to the edge and I was scrambling for help.
I drove home and when I got there I jumped into the bathtub to take my mind off of the case. I grabbed a hard soda beforehand and put on some music to help. I was in the bathroom for close to half an hour when there was a knock on the front door. I got out quickly, throwing my robe on as I walked to the door. I looked through the peep hole to see Sonny, looking concerned, holding bags of what I guessed was food.
I opened the door a little bit sticking my head out. "What's up, Sonny?"
He looked at me with those eyes, eyes that made me melt and could make me spill everything to him right here right now. "You looked like you were having a rough day so I brought some Chinese take out, if I remember correctly you told me it's your favorite ."
I smiled up at him. "You know how to cheer a girl up, Sonny."
I let him in and he started setting the food up in the living room. "I know I've said this before but you have a nice place, without the decorations, it looks great."
I grinned. "Thanks. I've been told I have a very weird but interesting taste in decor."
"Looks that way," he laughed.
"I'm just gonna go change and I'll be right back," I turned to go when he spoke up.
"What movie would you like to see? I can set it up while you change," he asked.
A man after my heart. "Whatever's on TV is fine with me."
I walked, more like ran, to my room so that I could get back to Sonny and the food. I put on some joggers and a big comfy sweater. When I "walked" back into the living room he had put on the movie 2012, one of my favorites. How'd he know?
"I love this movie," I took a seat next to him while grabbing a container of noodles.
"Really? Never seen it," he sat back taking a container of beef lo mein.
"It's the best, I think you'd like it."
"What's it about?"We ate and talked about the movie the rest of the night. I had a great time, he helped me forget about the case for just a little while.
Before he left I gave him a hug. "Thank you, Sonny. This really meant a lot to me."
His face was a little flushed when I pulled away. "I'm glad."
We said good night and when I laid down to go to sleep I had the biggest smile on my face.
