I was falling asleep on the couch with Zen next to me when my phone snapped me out of it with a text from Ella.
El: put a pot of tea on it's gonna be a long night
Oh man, what happened? When she arrived she looked ok but the girl she came in with didn't. I breathed easily for a second since she texted me.
"Maia, this is Yara. She's a model for the fashion show I was working," she asked the young lady to have a seat.
"Hello, Yara," I said soothingly. That chicken soup did wonders for my sore throat, my voice wasn't as raspy as before.
"Hello," she whispered, her hands were shaky and her make-up was running.
El pulled me over to the kitchen. "I'm gonna make you a cup of tea, ok," she nodded to Yara before we left the room.
Yara took a breath, Zen woke up with the commotion and sat next to her. Yara gave her a small smile and patted her head."What happened?," I asked while taking a seat.
"She says that one of the guests at the show assaulted her," El was shaking her head.
"I'll talk to her and see if we can get an arrest. Maybe we can ask her to come down to the station to file a report," I stood up to go talk to her.
"One thing at a time," El warned me.I talked to Yara and she told me about the whole attack. She said that he pulled her into the bathroom and started groping her. He called her names and unzipped his pants and tore down her underwear. He tried to put it inside but they heard someone come into the bathroom. He walked out but not before threatening her that if she told anyone about what happened he would hurt her and her career. After she went through the big details of her night I asked if she would be willing to file a report. She denied.
"This will be in the news. I cannot risk my career for what some stupid drunk did," she got up to leave.
"If you didn't want to have it reported then why did you come to my apartment with El? I can help you file charges and get him arrested," I told her calmly.
"I can't," she started shaking her head.
"If it's not what you're comfortable with I understand but know that he will do it again. To someone else maybe much younger," I didn't want to put that in her head but we needed to show these assholes that they can't keep getting away with attacking women without consequences.
Yara was at the door but she let go of the knob. "Fine. Let's go."I showed up to the precinct late at night. No one was there except a few cops milling around. I pulled out the paperwork and took her into a room to speak to her. El was sitting at my desk waiting.
"Get comfortable," I told her.
"I will," she waved me away.I wrote down everything that Yara had said about the attack and the man's features. I'd have to ask the Lieutenant if it'd be ok if I could work this since this isn't really a high profile case, but other than that I could get the paperwork started. Yara needs to know that someone's in her corner, ready to help. I won't have her deal with some cop who'll just say she was asking for it.
From what she remembered the guy was tall, light brown hair, wavy, really nice suit, brown eyes and great teeth. She also mentioned that he was circumcised.
Once we finished talking I asked her if she had a place to go and she said she had a hotel to stay at. I offered her a ride but she declined and called for a cab. I let her go so she could get some rest. "We can pick this up tomorrow with a sketch artist, is that ok?"
She nodded. "Thank you for your help.""That was nice what you did for her," I told El.
"You too. You're voice was so calming, do you use that with everyone you talk to," she asked.
"Yeah. It's a tactic I learned. And plus no one's gonna talk to someone with a threatening tone in their voice."
She nodded. "Wanna head home, I'm tired as hell."
"You know it," I yawned as I put the paperwork on Liv's desk and we headed back to my place to catch some sleep.
