Sonny and I rushed to Eli's room once we arrived at the hospital. When we got there though Eli wasn't in danger. His mom was still there with him and he was asleep. I took a breath, apparently I was holding it the whole time.
"Detectives, what's wrong?," Eli's mom asked when we entered the room.
"We came by to make sure he was safe," I gave her a nod.
"How's he doing," Sonny asked.
"Good, my husband went down to the cafeteria to see if he could get us some better food," she rubbed Eli's hand soothingly.
"Ok, we'll be right outside if you need us."
"Thank you, detectives," she gave us a reassuring smile.
We stepped out of the room and told Liv that everything was ok here and asked if she wanted backup.
"Thanks but we have it covered. Stay there until you hear from us, it could be the ex, it could be someone else," she told us quickly before I heard Fin say they had arrived.
"Be careful," Sonny wished them well before Liv hung up.
I breathed out a sigh of relief before slouching in my seat. "This is one of those cases that will stick to you. One that you'll look back on."
Sonny nodded before slouching in his seat too. "I know what you mean."
Eli's dad gave us a nod before entering the room, he had a tray filled with different things to snack on.
"Nice parents," I said more to myself.
"You don't see a lot of those when you're doin' this job," Sonny agreed.
I stood up, seeing the tray filled with food made me hungry. "Want something from the vending machine, I'm buying."
"I'll take a water, thanks."
I walked over to the machine and bought him a water while I bought myself a bag of gummy worms and bottle of water as well. When I walked back over to him he gave me a smile.
"Really?," he asked.
"What they're good."
By the time Liv called, Sonny ate five of them.
They had his ex in custody all we had to do was get him talking. During the interrogation, Fin and Sonny were taking a crack at him, he would make snide remarks.
"Oh, I hope she's alright," Brian said this with a smile.
"You think this is a joke?," Sonny looked down at him.
"No, I genuinely hope she's ok. I'd like to visit her if I can. Give Ellie some flowers," he was still smiling.
I was disgusted with this kid and his attitude towards Eli. "Lieutenant, I'd like to go visit Eli. Ask him some questions about this guy. He has to have a past of sick intentions."
She nodded. "Take Rollins with you."
"Eli, has your ex ever done something that made you uncomfortable? Something questionable?," I was sitting near him with his parents on his other side.
"He was ok," he looked down at his hands when he spoke.
"Eli, honey, tell them the truth," his mom had tears building up in her eyes.
"They're going to make sure that punk can never lay a hand on you ever again," his father's hands were clenched but he smiled softly to Eli.
I looked at Rollins when the parents said this.
"He was always a rough guy. Always grabbing when I pushed him away, he thought I was teasing him. He-," Eli stopped to gather himself. "He would hit me sometimes, it got so bad that I had to break it off."
I patted his hand. "You are very brave, Eli."
