I packed a few changes of clothes and some of Zen's toys and outfits. I set her up in the lounge and turned the light off.
"You sure she'll be ok in there?," Fin asked me.
"She sleeps all the time at home. I asked the vet about it and he said that it was normal," I shrugged with a smile. "It's rude when I try to tell her about my day and I see her sleeping."
Fin laughed. "My dogs are like that too. They're sleeping on me or just want me to give them treats."
"Sounds about right."

I called my mom and told her that I wanted her to get out of the house. "Go to the beach house for a week. I already called Joe and told him too," I was talking to her.
"Ok, amores. Will you be coming with us? You haven't been to the house and it's really nice. I think you'd like it," she said softly. She was scared for me and she really wanted me to get out of this job. I had a promise to keep for a little girl, I wouldn't let her down.
"Maybe when Christmas comes around, Ma."
"You can bring that handsome detective with you," her excitement rose.
I looked over at Sonny who was looking at me with a smile. "Yeah, maybe I will, Ma."
She started to shout with happiness. "Alright, amores, I need to pack. I'll let you get back to work, please be careful."
I smiled down at the floor at the thought of my mom, and my brother. "Ok, Ma, tell Jerry I miss him. Love you."
"Love you too."

I went over to Liv's office and told her that my family agreed to the impromtu vacation.
"That's good, Garcia," she was looking at the photo of the newest victim.
"Anything from forensics yet?," I asked.
She shook her head. "Not yet so sit tight."
I walked back to my desk and took a seat. Our suspect list hit a dead end, none of them drove a small white car. "Was your family ok with leavin town?," Sonny rolled his chair over to me.
"Yeah, my mom didn't ask any questions but she's worried about me. She knows what I'm saying underneath this request," I opened up the paper bag with the sandwich from earlier and took a bite. "Fuck, this is the best sandwich I've ever had!"
Sonny chuckled as he opened his as well. "I'm telling you."
I took another bite as he talked. "They'll never stop worrying about us. My mom calls me just about every other day asking about work. She just wants to know if I'm ok."
I smiled at him. "Aw, that's sweet."
He smiled at that. "Your mom?"
"She texts me or calls me, asking the same."
"See, they just want to make sure we're ok."

Forensics called and told us that the body has to be in a park or forest but that's all they knew. That wasn't much to go off of but we sent out some cops to go and search for the body. We got a call a couple of hours later saying that they found it. They brought it to our examiners office and she got to work. Chief Dodds made another press conference about the newest victim, this time a young woman. A worried father came in and asked to see the body so I went down with him, Carisi came with us. I heard the older man muttering under his breath, praying that it wasn't his daughter.
"She hasn't been answering her phone. She was at her friends house last night but her friend said she left in the morning to come back home," he was talking fast. "She didn't show up." I put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. We walked before a window and Sonny tapped on the glass for the examiner to raise the blinds.
I heard him gasp.
"Can you show me her right hand, she has a small birthmark on her pinky," he spoke through the speaker.
The examiner did as requested and showed him. It was her. Her father turned to me and embraced me, bawling. I patted his back, apologising for what happened. I could feel his hands turn to fists.
"She was so young," I heard him croak.
I rubbed his back. "We're gonna catch this guy. We're gonna get him."
He pulled away from me and sniffed. "Thank you, detective."
He walked away, leaving me and Sonny alone.

I was trying to fix up the cot in the lounge when Sonny came in.
"I'm heading home, just wanted to say goodnight," he looked at the bed next to mine to see Zen. He walked over to her and scratched behind her ears. "Looks like you have some good company."
I laughed a bit. "Yeah, she could sleep anywhere. Me on the other hand, wishes I could be in my own bed."
He looked grim. "Why don't you come stay at my place?"
I paused and turned to look at him, a sly smile playing on my lips. "And sleep in your bed, Sonny?"
His ears turned pink but he smiled at me. "I have a nice bed also an air mattress that my cousins sleep on when they visit me. Take your pick."
I tossed around the idea. "I don't wanna be a bother."
He waved me away and grabbed my bags. "I insist."
This was going to be interesting.
