"We got the guy," he said after a beat.
"Liv called me. Not gonna put my mind at ease though," I said that last part softly, hoping he didn't catch it.
"What do you mean?," Sonny walked over to me.
"It's nothing. Do you want something to drink?," I tried to change the subject.
"If it's nothing why bring it up, gorgeous?," his pet name for me made me smile. If he asked me to tell him everything about myself I would. I care about him so much, I'd tell him my darkest secrets. Would he for me?
"The basement filled with bodies. That image haunts me at night," I told him as I walked to the fridge to grab him a water. When I walked back he had taken his coat off, he wore a long sleeved shirt and sweatpants. His arm was in a sling as I had thought earlier. I handed him the water and took a seat next to Zen. Sonny took a seat next to me.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried taking sleeping pills," he asked.
"Yeah but they make it worse," I shuddered at the memory. I had nightmares before but with the sleeping pills it was more like terror attacks. I'd wake up screaming or crying. My mom was getting really concerned so I decided to leave and come back home. Hopefully I don't disturb my neighbors.
"I could make you some tea, that usually helps me," he said with a small smile.
"You have nightmares?," I asked.
"Yeah, sometimes," he stood up and walked over to my kitchen. I followed behind him. I took a seat and watched as he made his way around the kitchen, putting a pot of water to boil and putting a few packs of camomile tea inside. As it boiled I thought about how messed up I was and how he could possibly like someone like me. He smiled at me as he worked. "I wanted to ask you about that night I got shot," he spoke up through my thoughts.
I grinned. "What about it?"
"When I said it's a date, I meant it," he walked over to me.
"Here all this time I thought you were joking," I blushed.
"Nope, I'm serious," he grabbed my hands. "I want to take you out for dinner, at a nice place or even a home cooked meal at mine."
If it was even possible for me to blush even more I did at his forwardness. Almost instantly, negative thoughts started to overtake. I looked up at him and prepared myself for what would happen next. "How can you like someone like me?"
He was taken aback by the harshness of my words. "What do you mean?"
I stood up and stepped away from him, making an escape plan. "I'm not this perfect girl you have set up inside your mind. I have flaws and a past that I let consume me."
"I won't let that stop me from loving you," he said this with truth.
"Love?," I sniffed as my emotions threatened to burst.
"Yeah, I love you, Maia. Couldn't wait after the third date to tell you that," he laughed.
"I think it's a couple months after the first date, babe," I smiled.
"Oh, well, it's out there now," he walked over to me and grabbed my hands again. "I love all of you, especially your flaws. I love the way you take a sip of coffee even though you know it's hot but you burn your tongue anyways. I love the way you throw your heart into a case because you care so much. Even though it gets you hurt in the end."
I was trying not to cry at the honesty of his words. I never knew he felt like this for me. Me. Someone who is nobody's first choice or choice at all. Someone who cares for others and has trust issues of her own from a past full of lies.
"I love you, Maia. Flaws and all," he whispered to me.
"I love you too, Sonny," I closed what distance we had between us and leaned up to kiss him. He leaned down and pulled me in, deepening the kiss. Fireworks went off in my heart. Months of working together and being together all lead up to this moment. A moment I didn't want to end. The kettle on the stove started screaming as if cheering on our passion. I pulled away to look at him to read his face. I saw love and complete passion in his eyes, mine probably read the same.
"Would you like to spend the night," I asked quietly. High from the kiss has rendered me weak in the knees.
"I'd like that," he said as he leaned in for another kiss.*At Rikers Island Prison*
I walked into my new cell with my head high.
"A new cellmate. Not surprised," my new roommate sighed.
"Names Arthur," I said gruffly while I fixed my bottom bunk.
"Joe," he held a hand out to me and I shook it.
"What're you in for," I asked him.
"Killing a bunch of people, you?," he flipped over onto his side with a grin on his face.
"Same. Some detective got me though," I growled at the thought of her.
"Me too," he said surprised.
"I think we have a lot to talk about," I said while a plan brewed in my mind.(Thank you all for reading this!!! I hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed writing it. Let me know in the comments if you want a part two and see more Garisi lovins 💕)
