"The witnesses couldn't see their attacker because it was dark so we have no description of them except that one of the victims said that her attacker sounded young. The rest of the women described their attackers as men, probably in their late twenties," Sonny was summarizing it all for us.
"The young attacker was shaking and barely touched our vic," Rollins added.
"He's the one that we have to catch first, if he's not comfortable with attacking these women then we can get him to talk," I added in.
They all agreed and Liv said that I could go home but that she would need me to come in tonight so that we can stakeout this group.
I got home as fast as I could and told Ella to get her coat so that we could head out for brunch. She still wanted breakfast though so that's where we went, this little diner I know that has the best breakfast.
"So what's going on at work, nothing too crazy I hope," she asked after we ordered.
"There's a group of guys attacking women so I'm gonna have to go in tonight so we can try to catch them in the act," I took a sip of coffee.
She shook her head. "That's messed up."
I agreed. Her phone pinged so she checked it, a smile grew on her face.
"Who's the lucky gal?," I asked.
"Oh, her name is Antonia but she likes Tonya. We've been together for a few months now," she said with a smile and a blush growing across her cheeks.
"That's nice. What's she like?," I leaned in.
"She makes me laugh and she comforts me when I get anxiety. She's great, honestly," she looked lovestruck.
"Oohh, do I hear wedding bells?"
She smiled fondly. "Not until a year at least but I hope so."
After breakfast we went to an art museum and walked around. We talked about our jobs and about the past as we walked. My phone pinged so I looked down to see Sonny had texted me.
Sonny: how's it going with your sister?
Me: 😊 really well thanks
Sonny: I'm glad
"Who's Sonny?," my sister said with a devilish grin.
"My partner at work," I gave her a look.
"Hmm, hmm. Do I hear wedding bells?"
I gave her a look. "Shut up."
"I'm just saying, you look flushed."
I felt my face heat up more than it already was. "Is that a Picasso?"
I walked ahead of her but I could hear her laughing loudly behind me.
"What's he like," she asked while I drove to a mall so that we could shop around.
"My partner? He's a good guy, not crooked so that's good," I said with a shrug.
"What's he look like?," she nudged me softly.
"Why?"
"Because I can read you like a book and you know I won't drop the subject so just show me a pic. I showed you one of Tonya."
I sighed as I waited for the light to turn green. I pulled out my phone and showed her a selfie I took with him at the Halloween party.
"Oh, he looks handsome," she said calmly.
"Just say it, just say what you're thinking," I spat out.
"How old is he?"
I knew she would ask about his age that's why I was so hesitant to talk about Sonny. Sure he's a bit older than me but that shouldn't matter, should it? "Does it matter?"
She gave me my phone, she looked concerned. "I know you have a thing for older men but-."
"Can we talk about this later, please."
She sat back. "Ok, but we're gonna talk about it extensively."
We walked around for a bit at the mall and even got some free samples of ice cream. It was great hanging out with El after being apart for so long. We got a churro from a vendor outside and walked back to my car, bags in hand.
"It's almost lunch time if you want I can take you to this awesome restaurant I found."
"Chinese food?," she asked.
"Yep."
"Let's go!"
While we were eating I could feel her eyes on me from time to time. "I know you want to talk about it now but please don't."
She looked back at her food. "Ok but the longer you wait the more questions I come up with and the more topics I'll bring up."
"I'll risk it."
It was already getting dark outside so we headed back to my place.
"Make yourself comfortable I'll be back as soon as I can," I told her before grabbing my keys.
"Then we'll talk," she said reminding me.
"Yes, we will."
I parked my car and walked over to the squad, they were outside ready to go.
"Put this on just in case," Sonny handed me a bulletproof vest.
I put it on over my jacket. "What's the plan again?"
"We will be going to three different destinations where the women were attacked. Carisi and Garcia will take third street. Fin and Rollins will take second. And I will take first, I'll have a cop with me so that I'm not on my own," Liv relayed the plan.
We drove there quickly and parked once we were there. We waited quietly and kept an eye out.
"So how'd it go with your sister today," Sonny asked while he looked out the window.
"Good."
He turned to look at me. "Uh oh, what happened?"
I shook my head putting on a smile while I fidgeted with my tie. "She always wants to talk about stuff that I don't wanna talk about."
He nodded. "She cares about you. She just wants to make sure that you're ok."
"That's true."
"Someone's coming," he warned me.
It was a young woman and there was someone walking behind her. The person walking behind her headed inside one of the houses though.
"We're good."
"How's everything going by you guys?," Rollins spoke on the radio.
"Good, how about you," Sonny asked.
"Nothing much. Liv?"
"Same, nothing much to see," she said.
Once they called off I had a thought. "What if I go out there and walk around," I asked through the call.
"What? Are you crazy," Sonny asked covering up the walkie.
"That's not a bad idea, Garcia. Give it a go but Carisi needs to be near by," Liv agreed.
"The sooner we can catch one of these guys, Sonny," I got out of the car and walked to the corner.
