"I think I'll go with Mango just this once...Taro is getting a bit old," I stared up at the colorful sign hanging up on the wall above the head of the Boba worker (Boba worker is a small phrase I use to call someone who makes bubble tea) listing all the delicious choices I have for bubble tea. Taro is a purple root made into an incredible sweet drink with tapioca pearls that I always choose for my daily drink, except maybe it was time for a new approach on my taste buds.My dearest friend July gave me an excited look and exclaimed with relief,"Really! I thought we were gonna have taro again! finally! a new flavor! I was getting pretty tired too!"
"You know, July...You don't always have to pick the flavor I do,"
July gave me a look of humorous shock,"I beg your pardon, Sky! What are friends for if they can't choose the same flavor of bubble tea?"
I smiled at my over excited friend and handed the boba worker his cash, after easily explaining our tempted order for mango boba. We waited in contempt patience sitting down at the red leather sofa, taking in our surroundings for the hundredth time. It was not the largest of cafes, nor the smallest. Just the perfect cozy size for a nice tea house. The walls were painted a quaint lime green and outlined in sky blue. The large windows out looking the dull grey of the wet town were painted with window paint, tiny bunnies sipping large bottles of bubble tea stared happily at the pedestrians walking past these cheerful windows. There were no more than a small company of people in the cafe, most were college kids working. Unlike me and July...were only in the eighth grade.
Soon we could hear the loud whirr of the machine that plasters the plastic top on the bubble tea container and the shrill voice of the japanese boba worker calling our names. We grabbed our teas and sipped them contentedly at the red leather couch, the faintest patter of rain could be heard starting its journey to the ground on the roof.
"Oh look! Alice is here!" July exclaimed, pointing towards the jingling noise of the door opening. A girl their age with shoulder length brown hair walked in, flipping her blue raincoat hoodie back from her head and shaking the droplets of water from her body. She stepped towards them and sat down beside July with a hefty plop.
"Mango?" Alice stared at her friends drinks.
I felt my ears get hot,"Whaaaat???We can't change our drinks? maybe I'll even put egg pudding in mine next time?"
"Okay..." Alice sighed,"Anyway, I have something for you Sky."
I looked up in shock at her words, "For me...? But...."
"Eww, what if it's a love letter??!" July made a disgusted face as Alice pulled out a small creamed colored envelope from her pocket, drops of water were visible on the paper, smudging the 'anonymous' on the front.
Alice shrugged and sipped at her can of whatever she's drinking. I shakily took it from her and stuffed it in my book bag, "I'll read it at home....And I'll call both of you.." I stood up from the sofa, drink in hand, and slung my bag over my shoulder.
July looked up at me in confusion,"Are you leaving already Sky?"
"Come on, I just got here!" Alice complained, her bottom lip sticking out.
"Sorry guys..I just...I'll call you both later," I stuttered. Before my friends could reply, I was dashing out of their and making my way down the street to my home, feeling the weight of the letter burning in my book bag, the letter that ruined my perfectly good evening of boba and friends. I thought then that Alice should never be a mail carrier.
This is July
This is Alice ( I don't know why it's so big, sry)
