"Sky! Stop! I'm..thirsty!!!!!" July cried, catching up to me and grabbing my shoulder.I stopped and smiled at her.

We have been walking for who knows how long, and just were about to cross a rickety bridge trailing across a wide, deep trench that nobody could see the bottom of. And yes, we looked for another way..there is none.

"Okay! ummm" I squinted and spotted a large, glimmering lake just on the other side of the trench,"Lets get across this trench and we'll be at the lake...Alice? fly us there"

Alice stepped forward, grabbed me July and Simon and hauled us with her wings over the gloomy trench. I didn't look down for fear of seeing something I didn't want to see.

Once we were over the trench and safely placed in front of the large lake, July was lapping at the water like a wild dog during a drought. Alice joined her.

I sat down on a boulder and closed my eyes, letting the sun seep into my skin and nourish me from my state of tiredness. Suddenly I felt someone plop down besides me and I turned my head. It was Simon. I blushed and stared at my feet, I hadn't talked to him the whole way here......

"Hey..." I spoke with out looking at him. I hugged my knees to my chest.

"Hey..." He replied, "I just wanted....to say that I'm..sorry. I'm sorry for making you run like that..I just wanted to tell you the truth. I understand why you didn't like it....I never really spoke to you anyway."

"No..." I breathed, glancing quickly at him, making short eye contact. he looked shocked.

"What?"

"I said..no.." I sighed and looked fully at him, turning my body in his direction,"I'm sorry..I guess...I don't know why I did that..I'm just....lets be friends okay?" The words hurt me to say, because in some small way...I realized that I liked him just as much as he liked me.

"Yeah...friends.."He spoke the words,"Sure...well, I'm glad we got that cleared up..I'm gonna go hang out with July and Alice...."

"Yeah....okay," I turned away from him as to make sure he couldn't see the burning red blush marks singing on my cheeks.

I watched with a painful regret at my words as he skulked away towards July and Alice. Why didn't I tell him. I forced back tears. I needed to stop crying.

"Hey! Sky!" Alice cried, waving me over. I jumped up and ran by her side. She and July and simon were crouched at the lake and peering downwards. I gasped. A sparkling shimmer of lights flashed under neath the water. It looked....like a castle.

"What is it?" July asked,"The lost city of atlantis??? hehehe"

I rolled my eyes and peered closer, my nose touching the cool water. Suddenly, I felt a pair of slimy hands reach up out of the crystal clear water and pull me under. I screamed in kicked and felt my friends trying to pull me free of whatever had me in it's grasp. I looked down, feeling my lungs burning with the choking misery that I had no air left, and saw a mermaid! A real mermaid! Before I could notice any more about the mermaid, I felt Simon's strong arms pulling me up out of the water and throw me against the hard dirt of the land. I gasped and flopped like a fish. When the air returned to my lungs, I explained what I saw.

"truth fully.....I don't really know what I saw!" I gasped, staring at the still water.

"I think we should keep going.." Simon said slowly, leading us away from the mysterious waters of the lake and towards the ever continuing valley of trees.
