Alice-I wasn't upset at all about being sent to collect food for the boat. But I was still confused and upset that they wouldn't let me fly them over the ocean. I could do it!
I bent down to pick up a pinkish mushroom from out of the earth. I brushed the dirt off of it's white stem and peeked inside. It was a hollow tubed mushroom. I threw it lazily behind my back. Not edible.
I walked and walked, examining berries and plants here and then, but by the time the sun was starting to set...all I had was a handful of dried up goji berries and some dandelion leaves. I sighed. this was not going well for me.
I was thinking about heading back when a white glimpse of movement caught my eye. I slowly turned around and squinted through the trees, blocking the last orange rays of sun from my view with a leaf. Then I saw her. I saw the white, flowing mane and the crystalized eyes and the muscular body. A unicorn. I felt tears well in my eyes at the sight and thought about my childhood dreams..the fantasies. I dropped my berries and leaves and the unicorn raised her head and stared at me with widened eyes at the dull sound of the food hitting the ground.
She began to back away and I started to panic....she couldn't go now..she couldn't.
"Please....no..stay" Tears dripped down my reddening cheeks and I wiped them away with my blue coat sleeve. But, like the deer running from a hunter, it pranced away into the tress never to be seen again. I knelt down on the mossy floor and sobbed. After a few excruciating minutes and letting out my sadness, I heard a crunch and looked up to become face to face with a boy! but not any boy....the Sky Walkers son....Jasper.
I stood up abruptly and backed away, feeling my wings pop out instinctively.
"Please..stay here," he pleaded, "I just want to talk to you..Alice " His dusty mars red eyes were torturing me...scaring me. He would kill me for sure..and then he would hunt down my friends. I lifted myself a few inches off the ground hesitantly.
"How d..do you know my name?" I stuttered, my face white and my stomach heavy.
"Just please..let me come with your and your friends..I'm not like the other Sky walkers...please..just at least let me talk to you " he begged, brushing his black hair out of his eyes on instinct.
Alice sighed an lowered herself back to the ground, Surrendering herself to a long conversation that would change her future. And the future of her friends and their mission for safety.
