Sky-
I wake up and notice the crumpled leafs and moss empty beside me. Then I glance outside. It's raining! July's already awake. I look to my left and notice Alice and Simon still fast asleep. I shake them awake. It's time to continue on our way.
"What...no! no..I was dreaming..." Alice replies sloppily to my consistent shaking. Simon sits up and yawns, reaching for the water jug. His hand grabs thin air and he raises an eyebrow, his eyes still half closed. My heart began to beat inside my chest at the sight of his tousled hair and pink cheeks.
"Where..is the water?" He croaked, squinting.
"I..dont know," I replied shakily, "Probably with July...outside.."
Alice stands up from her bed and walks out of the tree. I see the bottom of her bare feet stand still in the mushy forest floor. Then she walks towards July's relaxed self sitting against a near oak tree.
It's me and Simon in the tree now. I quickly get up and make my way out of the tree, towards July and Alice...away from him. Away from the cloud of awkward heat that surrounded us like people caught in a burning building.
"Hey! Sky...I did it.."July jumped up and wiped at the lingering leaves stuck to her pants.
"What!" I ran up. Alice stood up too.
Simon ran up to us and glanced up at the sky. It was still raining. He opened his mouth and stayed like that for a while, drinking the sky up. The whole while July explained how she made it rain, he was doing that. To Sky, it looked a little funny and soon I was laughing. Then, as if the laugh was a yawn and oddly contagious, everyone else began to laugh too, not knowing what or why..but knowing that it was good.
"Hey...hey" Sky tried to speak, but it came out as a chortle. Soon she was able to regain her voice and spoke to the group of teenagers, "We should get going. "
"Yeah..we should, "Alice agreed.
So they packed up what little things they took with them and went on their way. It was only a short while until they finally broke out of the forest and opened up to the salty smelling, misty air. The sandy bottom beneath their feet, the blue ocean rolling around in the earth before them. They looked up at the flocking seagulls above them, flapping their white wings slowly in unison. They were at the ocean.
