Chapter 5

  The city was glowing brighter than a thousand diamonds and it took a great deal of time for my eyes to adjust. When they did, I found myself walking along a cobble stoned path way leading up to a golden colored pair of enormous city gates. Standing guard at the gates were two measly officers in shining silver suites. They were both brandishing deadly looking spears with hilts shaped as yellow dragons. 

  I cleared my throat, "H..hello."

  The younger looking guard with the lopsided helmet sat up hastily from his drooling sleep and eyed me suspiciously, pointing his spear at my chest. Backing away, I spoke, "Uh....I'm Sky...Er...."

  "Cessez de parler! Indiquer votre entreprise!" The young man cried, his helmet shaking on his head. 

  "Uhh....are..are you speaking french?? I don't know..." I gulped, "I'm..er, English."

  The man stared at me for a bit, confused. Then his stubble lined face lit up and he nudged the red bearded officer beside him, jolting him from his sleep. This other officer was a great deal older and had a short, but very large red beard.

    The young guard whispered something in french to the older one. The older one looked at me and spoked in a low gruff voice, "Excuse me, I speak English......" he spoke in a very thick accent and I strained my ears to hear him.

  "Oh...I'm Sky...I...I don't know where I am.." I stuttered, feeling stupid. I chill swept over me and I hugged myself. 

  "Cease talk! State your business!" The older guard spat, prodding me with the stick end of his long spear.

  "I just...I was in the woods and..."

  I was cut off by the young officer, "Les bois! Mais...vous eyes un elfe?" He looked startled and wide eyed.

  The older officer shushed him and spoke to me in a quiet voice,"You are Sky?"

  I shook my head vigorously, feeling strands of my hair fall around my forehead. With out much warning, both guards grabbed me by my elbows and began dragging me through the gates and to a large golden sky scraper and up an hours long while of stair cases to a dull silver office high in the tower. They pushed me down onto a red leather chair sitting before a large jade green desk in front of a large diamond encrusted window over looking the mysterious city. 

   "Stay here...you are not to move from this spot until lord Eau comes to get you.." The bearded guard spoke before him and the younger one slam the door behind them and I could hear the faint patter of their soft leather boots receding down the staircases. I sat slumped in my seat, dreading the uncertaines of it all. What was going on! Where are July and Alice. I began to cry once more, forgetting all about the magical feeling I felt in the woods. I had no one.

  Suddenly, the door behind me creaked open and I spun around to face an old man. He had a long mane of black hair, unblinking grey eyes, pasty white skin, and he was wearing a purple robe that was far from matching his menacing looks. As he sat down across from me, I saw a slight resemblance in his face...a resemblance to Zayne! The one that brought me here! It was all coming back to me one by one.

  he spoke,"Sky...It's been so long..." he smiled and the lines on his face crippled, "I remember when you were two years old and the war was starting.....such a terrible war, many bodies tossed to mold....we had no choice but to have you live in the parallel universe....earth. Yes....we needed to protect you, Sky. You are our princess."

  I felt my gut churn and gurgle and I fought the urge to throw up all over this odd old man,"What?"

  He continued,"This all must be very hard and confusing for you, so let me explain it all in detail," He cleared his throat and began the story,"Fourteen years ago, you are fourteen right? there was a war in our universe....you see, there are three universes...main ones. I'm sure there are many more! But, this one you are in now is the Universe called 'Monde de demain.' It is french because..well, lets just say a part of your universe stole our language."

  He laughed and continued,"The second universe is Earth. Yes, You know all about that one! The third universe is the world of obsidian....it is a dark and evil universe ruled by the evil sky walkers...I won't talk about them now. Anyway! The war between Monde de demain and Obsidian was just starting when you were two...Zayne, your brother, suggested you be sent to live with your uncle and aunt in earth. Now that the war is over, you can come back to us! I missed you dearly, me and your mother...There is much more to discuss, about your powers too, but for now...Reunite with your friends who we have accidentally brought into our world with you..."

  I sat speechless, processing his words,"Are you my....father?"

  He nodded silently and then pushed me out the door where I ran into July and Alice!Seeing there faces again reassured me that there was hope that soon it would be okay, soon I would understand what is going on.
