The trees are tall. Very tall. Almost taller than your average sized red wood. I stand up on shaky legs and turn my head in all directions in search of Alice or July.....or anyone. The floor beneath me is soft and the wet leaves wriggle in between my bare toes, that's when I realize I'm bare foot. I look up only to be blinded by a stray beam of light spilling in through a crack in the tree canopy, a parting of the leaves. I see the blue sky, tiny black dots flutter above...birds. Where am I?
I hear distant noises...growls and hoots and gut churning moans. I run as fast as I could through the mysterious forest, tripping over overgrown tree roots, splashing in stray puddles made by flowing streams, crushing the occasional brown mushroom. My parents are most likely worried sick by now...oh wait....I don't have parents.
After what seems like an eternity of running through dense bushes and skulking through sun patched trees, I slump down against an old growth, feeling hot tears sting my eyes. What is going on? I feel my throat catch as I try to scream out words...tears build up in my eyes and I can't control the simmering water works. I place my hand to my cheek to rid of the wetness to find a smudge of purple in the shape of a flower on my fingertips. Curiosity over runs sadness as I place my finger against the red wood I'm sitting back on and watch with amazement as a thin line of beautiful purple flowers trace from my fingertip along the bark.
I take my other hand and run it along the grass, leaving a dew ridden trail of mushrooms. What is this? I find myself not crying, but smiling.
I stand up and run...run as fast as my legs can carry me...all the while running my hands along passing trees, watching with giggle churning excitement as tiny plants sprout up from the places I touch. Then I stop. Right there, after the clearing of the trees....at the end of the forest lies the great city of diamonds.
