July-Were here. Were back at the city. Smoke is billowing up around the gates, shrouding our view of the city. I say a silent prayer to myself that Sky's brother is still alive.
"Where are the guards?" Zaine asked softly as we slowly walked towards the charred, open wide gates. Blacked bits of metal lay sizzling on the yellow grass. As we walked closer, I noticed something I will never forget. Two blackened skeletons lying bone still against the dead gate, their shining spears still clutched in what left of their hands there is.
"The guards...The Sky Walkers did this...." I shuddered and thought of Zayne. Did this happen to him too?
As we stepped over the gate and into the smoky city, we noticed more skeletons. Old and young, animal and what not. Buildings lay toppled and broken. The tower I spent the night in with Alice and Sky was all but torn off of the building it was built onto. Tears welled up in my eyes at the scarred boba hut sign...the memories. I felt Zaine pull me closer as we walked towards the prison. It was oddly in tact.
"Lets go in..." Zaine whispered, nudging me forwards through the open door of the prison building. We walked slowly along the cells, most of the bars broken and laying in neat heaps in the hallway. Some held more skeletons. I shuddered and wept silently as we got closer to the end. We heard a hoarse whimper in the next cell. We stopped. I felt Zaine grab my hand.
We turned the corner and peered into the dark cell, the door locked with a rusty cell lock. I grasped the bars and looked deeper into the cell. A pair of sad, deep eyes stared back at me. My heart flipped and blood pounded in my ears. It was Zayne. he's alive.
"Zayne" I choked back tears and broke the lock with a bolt of bright electricity. The door swung open and I heard a painful grunt and Zayne lifted himself up and inched towards us. I gasped. He was a mess.
"July... " Zayne croaked, hobbling on his bleeding knee. he had burn scars along his arms and legs and an oozing black eye. His lip was busted badly and all in all he looked like he had a freak encounter with a raging werewolf. But he still looked like the serious, kind Zayne I know. The Zayne I have been searching for. I ran to him and held him in my arms, not fighting the tears that flowed freely from my eyes. He hugged me back.
"I found you! your okay....I.. " I sobbed, staggering back from him at the sound of his painful grunts. Then he saw Zaine and a look of terror seized his face. I glanced nervously at the two brothers. They eyed each other suspiciously.
"So...your back? last time I saw you we were five and the mermaids were taking you away from us....that was right before we sent Sky away... " Zayne smirked "Glad to have you back brother! "
The two brothers hugged and and Zaine spoke this time"July helped save me! If it wasn't for her....I would still be in those mermaids prison"
Zayne frowned and looked from me to Zaine, "You guys haven't...you aren't.. "
I blushed, "No!"
But at the same time, Zaine said, "Yes...we are."
I gasped. Why was Zaine saying this! He knew I loved Zayne. I was terrified at what Zayne did next.
Zayne narrowed his eyes at his brother and spoke dangerously, "Brother... I think it's time we learned how to ride dragons. We're going to the Feu Arena."
