Chapter 36

Sky-

It's been a few days since we lost July and Mara set out to find her. I'm beginning to get worried. Alice is beginning to get frantic. The boys are making sore attempts at consoling us.

"Where the hell is she!!!" Alice cried, throwing her empty coconut shell on the sandy floor. Jasper ran to her and pulled her into his arms.

"It's okay! she's okay..." Jasper cooed. Alice sniffed and shook her head madly.

"How do you know!" Alice wriggled out of his arms and stood up, her face red and blotched with tears,"I miss her..."

It's been like this for days. Alice blubbers, Jasper comforts. I sit and think, Simon sits awkwardly beside me. No sign of Mara. I decided to explore that cave that Mara came out of. Nobody has been near it since Alice rescued Mara.

I waited until nobody was watching, then I ran towards the cave and ducked in, holding my nose because it still smelled faintly of fire and smoke. My eyes began to burn and tears streamed down my face as I got deeper down the sand path into the cave. I was surprised about how deep it was going! Finally, the smoke cleared and it began to get cold and damp, water dripped from the stone ceiling. I'm guessing I'm under water now. The cave seemed to go on forever! Until it stopped abruptly at a dead end. I frowned in disappointment. I turned around to start on my way back but I was shocked and scared to find that I was facing another wall! I spun around and realized the walls were closing in around me!

"Help!" I cried. But of course, nobody could hear me. Real tears began to spill. I gasped as the walls caved in closer and I pressed my hands and legs against them. Right as I thought I was a pancake, the floor opened up below me and I fell below into the water.
