Patrick spent the whole of the next day with Dr Urie. Pete's Mom stayed there with him too. That left Pete's Dad in charge of the other kids.
"Daddy, I'm bored." Hillary groaned.
"I know." He grumbled. "What do you want to do?"
"Let's go to Andy's house!"
Thankfully, Andy's Mom was happy to have them over, and Andy and Pete got to work on building the treehouse.
"So I agreed to be Patrick's friend." Pete sighed.
"Really? That's awesome!"
"I dunno. He's okay. We play a lot of card games."
"That's really cool." Andy smiled.
"Yeah. He's really good at it too. But like, when I ask him about where he used to live and what not, he gets really quiet and doesn't like to talk about it. It's weird."
"Maybe he just doesn't want to think about it." Andy shrugged.
"Yeah, but he's really weird about it. Did you know he pointed a knife at my Dad at dinner last night?"
"No, that's weird."
"Yeah. And then he said that he was going to hurt him. I think Mommy thinks he's crazy."
"Is he?"
"I dunno. Maybe a little bit. But he sure is good at card games."
The two boys pulled the wall they were building up, and Andy started hammering the nails in to keep it upright.
"This place is going to be so cool when it's all finished." Pete smiled.
Andy grinned and nodded. "When Mom puts the roof on, we can have sleepovers out here!"
Pete grinned. "It's our clubhouse!"
Andy nodded with a smile. "Yep."
"Boys!" Andy's Mom called. "Lunch!"
They went inside and sat at the table, and Andy's Mom gave them both a hot dog.
"Thank you Mrs Hurley." Pete grinned.
"Yeah, thanks Mom." Andy added.
After lunch they ventured out and continued building the second wall.
"So where is Patrick today?" Andy asked.
"At the there-a-peest."
"What's that?"
"Um.... it's like a doctor that you talk to about what you're thinking about. We all go there on Saturdays before music."
"That sounds boring."
"Not really. We play games and draw and sometimes Dr Urie gives us candy. It's not bad."
"Is it like the doctor that Mom sent me too after Dad died?"
"Uh... yeah. Like that."
"Oh. Okay. Did Patrick's Dad die?"
"I don't know. He doesn't like to talk about it."
"Oh."
They finished putting two of the walls up, before Pete had to go home.
"I'll see you at school Pete!"
"See you then Andy."
