"Are you ready for the first game of the season?" Andy asked as he threw Pete the ball.
Pete effortlessly caught it in his glove. "Yep! Are you going to be first base again?"
Andy nodded as he watched Pete throw the ball back. "What about you?"
Pete grinned. "Coach Greening says I can be short stop."
Andy caught the ball. "Sounds good! Our team is gonna win this year for sure!"
"I know!"
"Is Patrick gonna play too?" Andy asked as he threw the ball back.
Pete shook his head. "He can't run so he can't play. Mom wants to get him to play something though, so she's gonna teach him how to play chess."
Andy shrugged and continued with the warm up.
After about 10 minutes, Coach Greening pulled the team together for a team chat before the game.
"Alright, we're fielding first. Andy, first base. Tyler, second base. Josh, third base. Hailee, pitcher. Pete, short stop. Gerard, right field. Joe, left field. And Frank, centerfield. Mikey and Ray, you guys are on bench. Let's go team!"
Pete's Mom and Dad cheered as the team ran out to their positions.
It was a fair game for a game done by 6-10 year olds. The team was losing for the first three quarters, but finally pulled themselves back around in the last innings. Andy was given player of the match for his efforts too.
"That was a good game Peter." Pete's Dad smiled as they walked back to the car.
Pete grinned. "It was really cool."
"It looked fun..." Patrick murmured.
"We'll find you a sport to play that's fun." Pete's Mom assured him, patting his shoulder.
Patrick sighed. "No you won't."
"Aww. I'm sure I'll find something."
Pete's Dad changed the topic for conversation. "Are you ready for the monster trucks tonight?"
Pete grinned. "Yeah!"
