Jesse knew that there was now no turning back. Now far from the cabin, he was committed to finding Petra. "Gotta keep away from the forces or I'll be committed!" A patrol helicopter flew overhead, but the density of the now-frosted Emerald Forest meant that he could not be seen. "Thank God those helicopters don't have infrared." He needed a place to think of where Petra could've been, and thankfully the snow has calmed slightly, meaning it became much warmer, and Jesse could think. The wind howled around his face.

"Ok. Being out here, this far: It would mean you'd be desperate to find coal. The forests are rich in coal over anything. Also, if Petra was freezing to death inside a cave. There can't be any lava. So... wait a minute. If she was freezing, then she has to be... oh no! I better hurry before she freezes to death!" It was then that he noticed that he found he was headed his way to the nearest nitrous cave. He hoped that he could find Petra there.

When he did get there, the skies had turned dark, and the party had to return home. "Cowardly bastards!" Jesse noticed footprints in the snow. He knew those to be from the hiking boots Petra always wears. Jesse had to hurry, the woods are already dangerous, but they're far worse if caught in the middle of the snow. Jesse then noticed some blood on an icicle the size of Petra's foot. "She's gotta be here."

Jesse avoided the hassle with the slip-n-slide and used his pickaxes to make his way down. He noticed that it had grown even colder as he descended. He had to dig through several layers of knee-deep snow, causing him to break his ankle. This worsened when he saw nothing but a deep descent below him. "Crap..." His hopes were heightened when he heard echoes sounding like Petra's. "Hey! Anyone down there?" Jesse yelled below him. The response confirmed his thought that Petra was down there. "Jesse? Thank goodness. How'd you know I was down here?"

"Never mind that. Just hang on. I'll find a way down to you." Jesse was happy to hear his closest friend and crush was still alive. He suddenly slipped and dropped at least six feet, causing him to break his other ankle."Yow! Ouch!" He stumbled towards a freezing Petra. He breathed of extreme relief to see her face again. She helped him up to his feet and cuddled him tight for warmth, before kissing him. "Thank you so much. I thought no-one could've ever heard my distress fall. But- now I practically owe you my life."

Luckily, Jesse wore a second coat, so he slipped his sister's over Petra, who by the way, looked like she had an even worse case of Wither. "My gosh, you look terrible. Here, you're probably dying right now." Jesse offered her an apple, which she devoured like a hungry dog. "What were you thinking, coming out here? These caves are lethal at winter! Come to think of it, why were you down here?" Petra weakly replied "I was searching for coal. The town supply had been drained like beer on Oktoberfest and now I'm down here, practically freezing to death."

"Now how do we get out of here?" Jesse's heart sank, he had no plan to get out, forcing him to improvise. "We can just mine our way out!" Jesse remembered his pickaxes and had begun to mine. However, to his horror, they snapped immediately. "Now we're stuck! Oh Petra. I'm. I'm so sorry." Jesse had begun to cry, and being the kind who is unconditionally nice, she hugged him tight until he stopped crying. "Why? WHY? WHY had I been so stupid!?"

It's OK. I didn't know anyone would come for me. Except you. It probably doesn't lighten you up, but... I just thought you ought to know that... I love you...
