"Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.
"He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all.
"But in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things."
Daniel 11:36-38I can honestly say that I don't have a clue, but I do have some ideas. I struggled with this last night when I finished reading Daniel, and you know how much I like opening to verses that I have freshly read - I don't. So what am I supposed to learn?
Let's start with the figurative definition of fortress - a person or thing not susceptible to outside influence or disturbance. Verse 31, which is not quoted, mentions sanctuary fortress; how odd I thought. I relate a fortress to some kind of military fort or building.
So the god of fortresses could be a god that wants to change people's minds, make them do bad things and dishonor God. The god of fortresses, in my opinion, has to be Satan.
As far as a god that their fathers didn't know, no one that I have read about in the Bible actively worshiped Satan. They had some pretty close seconds that they worshiped, but not Satan himself.
So what does mean? This is a prophecy that is for today's world. There are many people in the world that currently worship Satan, unfortunately. Satan is alive and well today; but you know what, so is GOD.
I am on my phone, and was flipping back and forth doing some research, and somehow lost this entry that I typed. I don't think that has ever happened to me before. This is all before I figured this out - cue the eerie music. Tell God that you love Him.Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.
'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment.
"And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:29-31
