Chapter 51 - The Plan

XAVIER'S POV

"What do you mean? I don't understand. Ginawa ko naman lahat di ba? Bakit ganito?" I questioned.

I couldn't think straight at all. I was close to tearing up dahil sa sobrang frustration. After all of the things I've done, bakit walang nangyari?

"From the very start I haven't given you any false hopes, Chase. You wanted me to be honest kahit na masakit para sayo at sa pamilya mo at iyon din ang ginawa ko. Matagal ko ng sinabi na there will be no guarantee on your case. You were grouped with the people that has AML for an unknown cause and the percentage of recovery were very slim.

"You may have not realized it but, six years going seven is already long enough for your body to handle. Dahil mostly, two to four years ang tinatagal ng iba at kahit anong laban nila, mismong katawan nila ay sumusuko na.

"However, you're at your limit, Chase. Hindi na kaya ng katawan mo. Soon enough signs of your body worsening will come out and even doctors around the world won't be able to do anything. I'm sorry, Chase. We've done everything that we can but, this is all we can do."

Tulala kong tinanggap ang mga salitang iyon habang tahimik na umiiyak si Mommy kay Dad. Ang pag-iyak ni Mommy, ang pagpapatahan ni Daddy at ang tunog ng orasan lang ang tatlong bagay na naririnig ko ng mga oras na iyon at ang iba pa ay tahimik na.

Sino nga bang niloloko ko?

Unti unti akong tumayo mula sa kinauupuan ko. "Mom, Dad, kung pwede po ay gusto kong makita sina Tito Chad at Tita A'ishah. Please do this for me."

After saying those things, I went out of the office without looking back. I heard them trying to call me however, nothing mattered anymore.

Basta, umalis nalang ako.

I only came into my senses when I noticed that I was in a certain park. The sun has already set and everyone else around me are getting ready to go home. Hindi ko alam kung paano at kung kailan ako nakarating dito. But here I am, sitting on a bench near the lake.

I once again remembered everything that the doctor said to me earlier. Kung kaya't biglang nanikip ang dibdib ko at hindi ako nakahinga ng maayos.

I hopelessly smiled to myself.

Hindi ko alam kung dapat nalang ba ako tumawa dahil sa in-expect ko ng mangyayari 'to o dahil kahit papaano, umasa akong gagaling pa ko.

Either way ang hirap din palang tanggapin yung katotoohanan na, mamamatay na ko.

My phone suddenly beeped. As I opened the screen, numerous missed calls and messages from my parents and my friends were there. Siguro ay nag-aalala at nababaliw na sila sa kakahanap sakin. Even so, hindi ko pinansin ang mga iyon.

Because what caught my attention was an email from her.
