It was her fiftieth candy cane within the space of an hour. For hours Crook had poured over her mother's textbooks on chemistry. She had an entire box of candy cane boxes.
"Ugh, if I read anything else that has to do with atoms, the periodic table, or cells I'm going to explode." Ben groaned as he shut the laptop, "There's practically nothing that we can use!"
"You said it." Toby agreed, "I guess it's just as simple as mixing stuff together in beakers and saying 'POOFTA! My magic potion thingy!'"
"And Crook's going through candy canes like a mower through grass." Jeff peeked in from a different room.
"Hey I eat peppermint when I'm stressed." Crook said without looking up from the book. She was always cold and she didn't know why. But Crook just guessed that it was just the empathy link or whatever. Without anything further to learn in the book she shut it and sighed, "So we need the serum ingredients. I know I wrote them down somewhere but I don't know where."
"So let's go find it!" Toby yanked Crook to her feet.
"Okay! Okay! Let's go find it." Then Crook, Toby, Jeff, and Ben went upstairs to find the list of ingredients for the most dangerous substance in the world.
Meanwhile, across town in an abandoned mental asylum, Masky was waking up from yet another drug induced sleep.
"What do they want with me?" He thought. This place was cold, really cold. And the fact that he was chained to a pole didn't help. Without anything else to do, Masky looked at his surroundings. Again.
There was a huge screen similar to the one in Crook's basement. One wall was just cabinets, he didn't want to think about the things that could be in them. The other walls were just plain grey stone walls. The door was the kind of door your'd expect to see in a hospital.
Matt and Liu were in front of the screen studying a picture of Crook for some reason. She was leaning against a wall with a smirk playing across her lips. She wore a black tank-top that went a little low at the top and some jeans. Her two swords hung at her sides. She didn't have the cut on the side of her mouth. Masky wondered when that picture was taken. And why they were studying it.
"Why'd you give them three months?" Liu asked.
"Because it's not going to be easy. Plus a couple months without their friend here," Matt motioned his head towards Masky,"May make them get it faster."
"Suuuure. Your crushing on the girl." Liu snickered.
"No I'm not!"
"Are too! When we were doing the transmission you kept looking at her!"
"What does that mean?!?"
"What are you two arguing about now?" Alex said as he walked in through the door. That was really all Masky heard, because just then something strange happened. His entire vision blurred and then he was in Crook's house, being led up stairs by Toby. He rubbed his eyes to be sure he wasn't dreaming. Toby looked at him concerned.
"Hey Crook you okay?"
"What?" Masky looked down at his hands. They were too small and too white to be his, "Where am I?"
"Your at your house? I mean we've been here for hours. Were your eyes blue before or is that just me?" Toby asked. Then his vision went blurry an he was back in the, wherever he was.
Crook had pretty much experienced the same thing. One moment she's running up the stairs with Toby the next she's chained to a pole in a dull looking room. When she saw the picture on the screen she was even more confused.
It had been taken about a year ago. She'd set up a camera that she stole from somebody to take a picture. Now the pictures on all the wanted posters and TV thingies. Crook chuckled inwardly.
"Matt's crushing on Crook! Matt's crushing on Crook!" Liu sang as he ran away from Matt.
"I am not!!!!" Matt yelled back.
"Guys stop it we've got a call from Jane." Alex hit the keyboard and Jane's face came up. Then Crook's vision blurred and she was back on the stairs with Toby.
"Seriously are you okay?" Toby asked.
"What the hell just happened? I was in this dull looking room and Liu was running around saying Matt was crushing on me. Eww." Crook explained.
"Wow. Well for a second there it looked like you didn't know who you were."
"What does that mean?"
"Empathy link?"
"Sure." Crook rolled her eyes and began walking forward.
"Yeah sure." Toby thought, "Something's going on with her..."
So there's another chapter. Hoped you all liked it. And well next chapter you guys get to find out the ingredients of the serum!!
