A Real Episode of Castle

I looked over the papers in the files before the big, whatever we were doing. The people that wrote these things.....they must've been lower than Jane. Doing things like that to him. I wonder what it must've been like. The thing that really confused me was the experiment number. 1342. Two numbers to the combination to the in home morgue. I tried to recall those dates in my mind. Between September 12th and September 29th. I tried to remember what my mom was doing. She had been acting weird in between those days. Leaving for work early, coming home late, glancing around everywhere whenever she was near woods, and generally just keeping to herself. I looked at the next sheet, which had the names of the people that worked on this project. I sat up suddenly. There were many names of people that I had known. Too many. I quickly closed the folder and ran to Masky's room. I knocked on the door frantically. When he answered I looked around to see if anybody was in the hallway.

"I found something. The people that worked on the project. I know too many of the people on that list. Look at these names and tell me you don't recognize the names." I produced the paper. Masky went over it, pointing at various names.

"Most of the staff at Breckenridge are on this list. Alex too." He looked up at me with a mixed look of happiness that we found something and the shock that he'd been so close to the people who'd done this to him.

"And that's not all. All of them are still alive except," I pointed at a specific name, " My mother."

"Your mother helped with this?"

"Believe it or not, I think so. Between those dates she was leaving early, coming home late. She was even more paranoid than usual and was just acting strange. There has to be more at Breckenridge. Where did you find this again?" I led to my room, gathered the file, and started downstairs.

"In the basement in between some books on a shelf. It was kind of hard to miss." Masky trailed behind me.

"This is the one thing that could help us figure out what Jane's up to and why she'd targeting you and Toby. In order to figure out that we need more information. If they kept the files at Breckenridge than there had to be a reason." I opened up the lab and found the safe I was always forbidden to open. That was the only rule I'd ever really listened to, "Now to figure out the code...." I tried things like my mom's name, 1342, 2431, my name, my father's name, Matt, Jimmy, Daniels, and Lab. (I was running out of ideas, don't judge).

"Your mom was smart. She obviously didn't want anyone getting into this safe." Masky sat down next to me and clasped his hands against his chin as if thinking very philosophically.

"Who do we know that can hack into electronics?" I thought aloud. Masky suddenly got this look on his face that remided me a little of Jim Moriarty from BBC for some reason. Odd how Sherlock refrences just pop in at random times.

"Ben! We have a something that you can help with!" He shouted over his shoulder. Ben came running in, looking a little startled.

"Can you hack into the safe and find the code to get it open?" I gustured twoard the safe's numbers and letters screen. Ben smiled and cracked his knuckles.

"Easy." He reached twoard it. Ben's figures began to turn into pixals as he reached inside the screen. The combination began to appear on the screen. PROJECTTOTHEARK, "There. Should open now. What do you need that's inside it?"

"Something fishy is going on at Breckenridge. And we're all going to find out what it is." Masky explained.

I opened the safe with a slight doubt that anything that could help us would actually be in there. But all that was for nothing because we found the rest of the paperwork easily. The project was named Totheark. It didn't state the purpose of the project but it included links and passwords to different materials on a secure site called Polybius. The name rang a bell, but I didn't know why. A few minutes later the rest of the gang (Jay and all) were gathered around the big computers in the basement researching what building Breckinridge used to be before they made it into a school. According to our findingd it used to be part of the college nearby. They used it for chemistry, animal testing, and even human testing. You know before human testing became illigel. Apparently some of the stuff that they used had been put into one of the old lab rooms. The principal is found the room and decided to use it. At first they only used students to test on, we found that out by matching some missing persons posters to the names of the kids they first tested on. What they were trying to find we don't know but maybe if we went to Breckinridge we could figure it out. Then he began to watch Marble Hornets. He noted that whenever either Masky or Hoodie was around they showed incredible strength and endurence. My only guess is he wanted to figure out why. So, accourding to the files and the website, he hired Alex and one other man (who shall go unnamed for privacy's sake) to kidnap one of them and bring them to Breckinridge to be tested on. Of course we know that person was Masky. Upon learning that he was part of the cause Jay looked guilty as if the police had been accusing him of this. To be a little supportive I decided to change to subject to a different reason Masky was taken. According to the files Alex had come to the princible with the idea, and was the one to show him Marble Hornets in the first place. If Alex hadn't escaped I would've gone into the other room and punched him in the face, fifty million times. Nobody hurts my friends and gets away with it. Next time he's not gonna walk away with just a bruse on his stomach and a hard hit to the head. Next time he'll end up a little more like Matt did. Speaking of him, that glorious idiot was involved in this too. He alowed access to buildings in his college. If I could stab him again, I would. I walked up to where Jay was standing behind Jeff.

"Sorry about your arm." I said glancing at him.

"Huh? Oh, yeah um it's okay. It didn't break much. Only part of the bone." Jay shrugged. After a few more minutes of debating on what we were gonna do, we all came to a conclusion. Breckenridge had the rest of the answers to our questions.

"What do we look for when we get there?" Hoodie asked me.

"A computer, some files, anything that could help us understand why." I answered cooly. To be honest I felt like we were in an episode of Castle and I was Becket.

This was gonna be fun.
