Everyone gasped at the sight before us. Masky was tied to a post, his hands behind his back. Jenn's hands flew up to her mouth.

" Masky! " Hoodie's voice cracked. I for one was speechless.

" Nooo. " Jenn trailed. I squeezed her hand. Ben clung to Jenn, like usual, with tears in his eyes. It didn't appear that Masky was awake. A message came on the screen.

It appears that we have your little friend here. You will do exactly as we say or severe consequences will follow. -Matt, Jay, Liu, and Alex.

" Matt? Matt? What is wrong with you Matt?! I will kill you if you so much lay a fingernail on him!" Jenn screamed. She then sank to the ground sobbing.

" M-masky.....why'd they take him? If they hurt the little guy......" Toby hugged his knees to his chest.

" We gotta get Slender. This is way outta our league. I mean we can handle a few minor things but a KIDNAPPING? W-we can't handle this!" I shook my head.

" I agree. We need to contact Slender. If anyone can rescue Masky, he can." Hoodie nodded in my direction as he reached the phone.

The room fell silent as Hoodie dialed Slender. The tension in the air was so strong you could see it. Jenn stood up and opened her eyes. Her voice rang out in a way I'd never heard before.

"Where is he?" There was a pause as if she was listening to someone, "I think it is best."

"Crook? Are you okay?" Ben asked wearily. She didn't answer. Jenn just stared off into space. Then she fell backwards, unconscious. I caught her and put her on a couch in the corner.

A few hours later, Slender arrived. We showed him the video and told him what Jenn said before she passed out. I looked at her sleeping figure. There was something about her that was different than before, but I couldn't think of what it was.

"How long has she been out?" Slender asked.

"A few hours. Why?" Ben sat cross-legged on the floor.

"An empathy link." Slender nodded his head as he felt Jenn's forehead.

" What?" I asked.

" That's why she's been out so long. She's building an empathy link between her and Masky. " The room fell silent again. Ben broke the silence with the question that was on everybody's mind.

"What's an empathy link? "

"It's where two people's minds are connected through a link. They can see, hear, and feel what's going on with the other person at times. " Hoodie explained.

" But why-" I began but was interrupted by a moan from Jenn.

"Owwww. What happened?" She clutched her head, "Did like the earth explode or something?"

"No. Unless......." Ben thought about it but then thought again.

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" Jenn's eyes bugged out but then she shook her head, "My imagination hates me. "
"Crook what do you hear in your head?" Slender again felt her forehead.

"I-i hear Masky's voice." Her eyes glazed over before she fell back against the pillow.

"What's going on with her?" I asked.

"It's going in and out. This is going to be one heck of an empathy link if she's going in and out of consciousness. Soon they're going to be able to switch bodies." Slender contemplated.
I left the room then. I went up to the kitchen. This was crazy, even for me! Kidnappings, empathy links, and switching bodies? What was going on? To calm myself down I went outside. The cold air bit at my skin. Thoughts came and went I don't even remember them. How long I was out there, I don't know. All I know is that when Ben came out to get me to go back inside Jenn was with him. I hugged her saying I was sorry for all she had to go through.

"Jeff. I found out something." She looked into my eyes. Hers were filled with determination, "Matt thinks that Jennifer Daniels is still, well Jennifer Daniels. It's why he's with Jane. To find me. If he knew that he'd found me at the edge of the woods that one day he would faint. He does that a lot."

"Well so do you." Ben added. Jenn glared at him.

"That's because the other end is going in and out of consciousness." Even though she didn't say it I knew what she meant by 'the other end.' Masky. Poor guy.

"What's making him go in and out though?" I wondered. Jenn grimaced at the thought. Just then Toby came running.

"Guys, they're video chatting us!" He took Jenn's arm and ran back in the house. On the screen were Jay, Alex, and Matt. Just in the background you could see Masky. He was still in the same position as before. And still unconscious. Jenn glared at Matt with such intensity that I thought she was going to shoot lasers out of her eyes and drill a hole in the screen.

Only Ben, Toby, Jenn, and I were in the room. Jay was the first to speak.

" Hello, uh people."

"Really Jay? Really?" Alex raised an eyebrow. Matt and Jenn were locked in what looked like a staring contest.

"Well what else do you expect me to do? I've never done this before!" Jay shot back.

"Oh. My. God. You are such an idiot." Alex face-palmed and shook his head.

"Much I as would like to hear you people argue, I'm getting annoyed and would appreciate it if you would just get to the point." Jenn said through gritted teeth. My eyes always seemed to look to Ben. Who was looking at Jenn with this look of admiration. I noticed that Matt's eyes would flicker from Jenn to Ben.

"Okay fine. We want the serum." Matt crossed his arms in front of his chest. Jenn did the same.

"39 clues serum?" Her tone was flat and emotionless.

"Yes, that one. You have three months." Then Matt ended the call.

"What's the 39 clues serum?" Toby asked.

"One of the most dangerous substances in the world. Why they want it I don't know, but I'm afraid to find out what happens if we say no." Jenn's small frame seemed to collapse into itself.

"So what are we going to do now?" I sat down on the couch and put my head in my hands.

"Well first, " Jenn breathed, "We need to study up on chemistry."
