Fight or Flight

I walked next to Jenn as we went to Breckenridge. She had a spool of duct tape that she was slowly making into a ball.

"What's that for?" I asked.

"The duct tape or the ball?" She answers with a question, great.

"Both."

"Duct tape's for covering Alex's mouth when I beat the crap out of him. The duct tape ball is what I'm going to beat him with." Jenn smiled. It was creepy and comforting at the same time. I really don't know how she does it, "Hey look we're here!" Using some pretty good lock picking skills, Jay got us inside one of the basement windows. It was dark and we'd brought flashlights. Masky lead us to the where he'd found the file and told us how he'd found it. I heard movement down the hallway, but I didn't think much of it at the time.

"I don't see any other files." Hoodie said as he searched along the bookshelf.

"Okay, maybe there isn't anything in this particular area but there's practically more ground to cover down here than up there." Jenn pointed to the ceiling, signifying the upper floors.

"So where should we start looking?" Ben asked. I knew he wanted to find a locked computer so he could use his pixalating trick. When he'd used it to open the safe he'd felt pretty good about himself. It also made him want to do it again.

"The rooms, one by one. Maybe two or three people in one room." Jenn said as she counted us out, "Okay so there are seven of us.....Jeff, Masky, Jay, and Hoodie will go in the first room on the right while Toby, Ben, and I go in the room next to it." Without waiting for answers or objections Jenn walked into the second room to the right. Masky and Ben followed. I shrugged before going into the room Jenn specified. It was like a giant library. We searched between books and even in a few of them. When I was going to take another book off the shelf I heard the noise of movement again.

"Guys, do you hear that?" I whispered.

"Hear what?" Masky whispered back, "And why are we whispering?"

"I dunno, seems more appropriate?" Jay guessed. I didn't care what the others thought of Jay, but I liked him. I mean even when he was with Jane I always thought that if we could get him on our side it would be awesome. Just then lights blared to life, blinding us. Our heads all shot to the doorway where Alex stood. Of course he had his gun with him. I sure wished I had a duct tape ball right then. Masky stepped foreword with his hands out in front of him.

"Alex, just put the gun down, and we won't fight you." He sounded like a cop negotiating a hostage crisis.

"That's pretty funny coming from you." Alex scowled. Jay walked up next to Masky.

"Alex...." Even from where I stood I could see the finger holding the trigger tighten. I could also see who Alex was pointing the gun at, Masky, "Alex.."

Alex took a step in Masky's direction, closed his eyes, and fired. Jay was in front of Masky before the bullet had even left the barrel of the gun. It hit him on the right side. Alex ran out of the room and down the hallway. Hoodie went chasing after him. Jenn, Toby and Ben all ran through the door at the same time. Then Hoodie came running back in to help me with Jay. While Hoodie and I tried to stop the bleeding, Masky stood there shaking like he was having a panic attack. Toby and Jenn tried to get him to sit down. Ben had fainted as soon as he saw the blood on our hands. Jay had long lost consciousness as soon as the bullet hit him. I didn't want to think about what that might mean.

"Masky calm down. Take your pills your gonna have another seizure if you don't. Masky are you even listening? Masky? Masky?" Toby tried shaking him but Masky just stared straight ahead, oblivious to anything and everything else.

"Jay don't you die on me!" Jenn shooed Hoodie away and told him to calm Masky down. She took his place in covering the bullet wound with both hands, "I'm not going to let Alex kill you!" I knew we were too late then. I saw Jay's chest stop moving right before my eyes.

"Jenn......" I looked up at her with a look of sadness.

"Jay, wake up! Wake up dammit!" Jenn wouldn't listen.

"Jenn!" She looked up with a start, as if she'd just realized I was there, "He's gone it's too late."

"No. No he can't be. No no no no. This is my fault. This is my fault. Why'd he have to move in front of me? You should've just let me die, Jay! You should've just let me die!" Masky fell to the ground sobbing and shaking and coughing. Hoodie sank down next to him and put his arms around him. Jenn just stared at Jay's corpse.

"He was a great guy." She said. Then she got up and walked back into the hallway. Toby followed her and as they exited I couldn't help but notice some glowing black stuff that spread out from where Jenn had been sitting.

Yeah I know I suck, I'm evil, and I'm Moffat. I know. I just wish that entry 80 hadn't happened so Jay would be still alive and writing about him wouldn't make me depressed.

Peace, Love, and Hating Alex Kralie with a burning passion,

Soph.
