Heyo! Yeah probably after the last chapter you guys HATE me so I thought I might put this chapter in a positive person's perspective, TOBY'S!!!! Oh yeah and in the next chapter your going to hate me even more.
I followed Crook out in the hallway. Even though she had the gloves on the ember-char thing still spread out across the hallway.
"We're going to find him." She said, not even breaking stride or looking back at me.
"Yeah, and then what?" I asked as I ran to her side.
"I'm going to kill him. Simple as that." I didn't like the was she said this without emotion. It was creepy, yet cool at the same time.
"We don't even know which direction he went in." I pointed out.
"My best bet is that he went this way," She pointed down the hallway to the left, "Because we came from the right. He probably ducked inside one of the rooms and waited until we were all inside. Now we just need to find out where he went next." Gosh she sounded like Becket. Or Castle.
"I guess so. Shouldn't we tell the others where we'e going?" I asked. Crook stopped and turned around.
"I don't know." She looked torn. Like at any moment she might just collapse on the ground and cry, "We probably should." We walked back to the room the others were in, "We're going to find Alex." She declared.
"I'm coming with you." Jeff stood up, Crook stopped him.
"No. We can't have an army of people coming or he'll most likely shoot again." She explained, looking very serious. Why wasn't this girl a cop?
"You can't go on your own!" Ben gasped.
"She's not." I stepped foreword.
"You don't have to worry about a thing. If we feel like we're in any kind of danger we'll come right back." Crook put her hands on Jeff's shoulders, "Trust me. Please."
"It's not that I don't trust you...I just don't want you to get hurt." Jeff hugged her. I didn't hear her response because I walked over to where Hoodie was still trying to calm Masky down.
"Hey, we're gonna catch him. Don't worry." I hugged Masky, trying to reassure him.
A few minutes later Crook and I were walking down the hallway. I fished my goggles out of my pocket and snapped them on. I fiddled with the straps for a bit before keeping my hands to my sides. Crook had a duct tape ball tucked inside her jacket. The silence made the long hallways even longer and each corner a terrible possibility. We moved slowly, so we wouldn't make much noise. It was that classic horror movie setting. Two people alone with flashlights, practically no weapons, and a killer on the loose. All we were missing was scary music.
"Shh." Crook stopped and I bumped into her.
"What?" I whispered.
"I heard something. Turn off the flashlight." She grabbed the flashlight and turned it off. A light flashed on in one of the room. Two kids came out. Their eyes were completely black.
"Has the target been located?" One kid turned to the other. The other shook it's head, "Alex has failed. He killed the wrong person."
"So it was me they were really after." I scowled.
"I agreee. Come, we must locate the target and get rid of him." The black eyed kids then ducked into the room they came from and turned off the light. A small blue light took it's place.
"A computer screen." Crook whispered. She peeked in the doorway and giggled, "They're looking on the other side of the tunnels. No where near where we are or where we're going." I tried turning on the flashlight but it wouldn't turn on.
"It won't turn on." I panicked.
"I got that covered." She smiled as she took off a glove.
"Crook no. We don't know how it'll effect you yet."
Ignoring me, her hand burst into flames. Then Crook got up and stepped forward.
"Okay, apparently my opinion doesn't matter." I sighed.
"No, well, not in this particular situation. Well unless you want to run around in the dark." She smiled. I smiled back and shook my head. We pressed on, hoping to find at least a clue as to where Alex was. Crook walked next to me, slowing down for once. She held the fire-hand out in front of us as we walked forward. After what seemed like hours, we found bullet casings, "That's strange, we would've heard the shots."
"Yeah. How could we not hear them?" I picked one up. Part of it fell apart and some black powder fell out, "What is this?"
"Hold on. Before we left Hoodie gave me a chemical analyzer. Put some of that powder on the tab and it'll analyze it. Tell us what it is." Crook turned it on and I put some of the powder on the tab. As the device deciphered what the powder was we picked up the rest of the casings and began walking back the direction we came. The device beeped and Crook looked down, "Toby drop the casings we need to get back to the others! The powder'e gun powder! Run!" As we ran the powder ignited. The explosion threw us forward.
"What was that?!" I shouted. Crook got up holding her side.
"I don't know. But I have a feeling they were trying to kill you. But that's gonna be hard. How do you not get hurt?" She shook out her right arm, "Yeah, that wrist is broken. Great. Hoodie probably heard that and is going ballistic."
"It's not that I don't get hurt. Trust me I do. It's just that I don't feel pain. There's something," I pointed at the back of my neck, "Right there that disrupts the pain signals." Crook smiled.
"That must be weird. Well I doubt we'll found him now. He either died in that explosion or set it then ran off." Crook stared back at the dust settling. In the distance we could hear people shouting. I wondered just how much of the building exploded. Crook's phone buzzed, "Hello? Yes we're fine. No. No. No. Absolutely not. I will track down that- Okay. He did? On our way." She hung up, "That was Hoodie. He said Alex ran by a couple seconds before the explosion. They can't go after him because the rooms caved in. Jeff's working on getting the biggest rock to move but that will take some time. We need to find him."
"That won't be necessary." A voice said behind us. We spun around to face the one guy I really didn't want to see.
