HEY!!! The chapter starts when Crook and Jeff are waking up the stairs.
I ran up the steps with Jeff following.
"I understand how you wouldn't want to hurt anyone but look at what you can do! Your fire isn't destructive! It's beautiful!" He reasoned, "You don't have to live in fear you know. I'm right here." We were now in the big room that had a balcony.
"Jeff, please. Go back home. Go be with your friends and forget about me. You belong down there." I pleaded.
"Yeah but-"
"I know, you mean well. But leave me be. " I opened the doors to the balcony, "Yeah I'm alone. But I'm also free!" I turned to see Jeff next to me. I stepped away and began to go back inside, "Just stay away. Please. You'll be safe from me."
"About that.....we're not exactly what you might call safe." Jeff looked guilty. I didn't like this.
"What do you mean, your not?" I stepped forward.
"I don't think you know." He stepped forward and I stepped back.
"What? What happened?" I leaned forward in fear of what he was going to say. As if he read my mind he said,
"The forest, you kind of set it on fire." He quickly followed it by, "But that's okay you can just stop it right?"
"No I can't! I-I don't know how!" I looked at my hands in horror. What had I done?
"Sure you can! I know you can! You can do anything!" Jeff's eyes sparkled with hope. Hope that I couldn't have.
"Oh I'm so stupid! How could I have been so blind?" I turned as embers swirled around me.
"You don't have to be afraid! You don't have to be alone!" I heard Jeff call out.
"No! No! No! I can't escape!" I pounded my head with my fists.
"We can fix this!"
"I can't control it!!!"
"We can get through this together!" Jeff's voice sounded farther and farther away.
"Jeff your only making it worse!" I screamed.
"Don't panic!"
"There's so much I can't do!" I whispered to myself.
"Please Jenn we can do this! We can stop the fire! You can come home!" Jeff pleaded.
"No......" I pressed my palms into my temples.
"Jenn we may not know what to do but others could!" Jeff had good reasoning but in the moment I wasn't listening.
"I........" I started. The embers circled faster and faster just like they had when I'd killed Alex, "I-I-I I CAN'T"
Big red, orange, and yellow flashes of fire exploded from all sides of me and shooting off in all directions. It was absorbed into the walls. I faced one of the walls breathing heavily. I heard the sound a person makes when they hit the ground. Turning I saw Jeff on his knees holding his chest. I gasped in horror.
"Jeff!" Masky, Ben, and could it be? No. Toby?, "Are you all right?"
"I'm alright. I'm alright." Jeff straightened up, "I'm fine."
"Toby? How'd you? It doesn't matter you have to go!" I shrank away from all of them.
"Jenn I know we can figure this out! Together!" Jeff looked like he was going to cry.
"How?" I asked, "What power do you have to stop this fire? To stop me? You have to go."
"We're not leaving without you." Masky stepped forward.
"Yes you are." I sent a blast of fire at the ground. The fire built on itself and became a nine feet tall fire elemental. I ran from the room and down the stairs. I ducked inside a room in the middle of the staircase. It was modeled after the secret room at my old house. There I collapsed in one of the golden chairs (that were amazingly soft). I covered my face with my hands and began to cry. How could I have let this happen? It sure seemed like everything was just falling apart.
You wanted to know what I was afraid of Jeff? This is what I was afraid of.
