When I walked in I was nearly tackled to the ground by Toby.
"Your baaaaaaack!!!!"
"Yes I am. Did Hoodie bring back Masky?" I picked myself up.
"Yeah they're in the living room." Toby led me into the room. Hoodie sat on the couch with Masky's head in his lap. Masky was still asleep. I wished I knew what was wrong with him but I didn't.
"He still hasn't woken up has he?" I sighed before I plopped down on the couch too.
"No. I don't know what's wrong. Normaly he just wakes right back up." Hoodie ran his fingers through Masky's bangs.
"What do you mean normaly?" I sat up again.
"Well, Masky has some history with seizures. He has some medication he takes to help him not have them as often but he didn't have them this time. I guess it's just been a long time and his body needs time to recover. I just don't know."
"Hold on," I rummaged through the bag until I found the bottle of pills, "I found these in this bag." I handed them to Hoodie.
"These are his pills...how did they get them?" He looked down at Masky.
Masky's face then contorted with fear and he clutched at Hoodie's shirt. His breathing became short and rapid.
"Oh no." Hoodie tried to pry Masky's hands off his shirt but he had a death grip that couldn't be taken off.
"What? What's going on?" I leaped up off the couch. Toby came running back in.
"I told Ben and Jeff to stay in the other room until he wakes up." Toby glanced at me nervously.
"What's going on?!" I demanded.
"It's just something that's been going in since-" Toby stopped himself.
"Seriously, if this is something that can help him," I gestured toward Masky, "Than you guys better tell me." Toby glanced at Hoodie, who nodded.
"Believe it or not, this isn't the first time that Masky's been taken." Toby hugged himself tightly. I inched closer, wanting to here about it, " Around two years ago, some guys in lab coats came into our hiding place at Rosswood and they took him. They didn't do anything else. They just came in, grabbed him, then left."
"They were doing, well, testing. They took out tissue from his shoulder for some reason, they held his face underwater to see how long he could hold his breath, they gave him drugs to see what would happen, they saw how many electric shocks it would take to make him pass out, and they did countless blood tests. He was barely alive when we found him." Hoodie finished. I glanced over at Masky, the room was silent except for his rapid breathing.
"Why? What good what it do them?" I pondered the thought for a moment. Two years ago......there may be a connection. Then again I could be going all Castle on these guys and cooking up a conspiracy that really doesn't exist, "What date?"
"September 11 , 2010." Hoodie shrugged, "Why?"
"That's almost the exact date I murdered my family. Hey anything else weird happen on that day?" I was seriously on to something here. Toby turned to leave, "Toby." He stopped, cringing.
"Hey." Hoodie put his hand on Toby's shoulder, "It's okay to tell her. She'll understand."
"Um....well. Two years ago, my uh girlfriend disappeared." Toby looked as if he was about to cry. Feeling sorry for him I stepped forward and hugged the life out if that boy, "Ahhh help me! Crook's trying to crush me!" Toby made exaggerated choking and gagging sounds. I pulled away laughing.
"Okay. Hoodie your turn for something odd that happened two years ago." I put my hands in my hips, "And there's no way your getting outta this."
"Okay. Hm let's see, two years ago..... Hey wasn't that when we were trying to get rid of Jay?" Hoodie nodded, "Yeah." As I made a mental checklist, Ben popped his head in.
"Hey is he awake yet?"
"No." Toby shrugged. Ben frowned but didn't say anything.
"I'm gonna go crash upstairs." I yawned for emphasis. As I walked upstairs I saw Jeff on the computer in the other room playing Minecraft. I giggled inwardly. When I got to my room I flopped on my bed and within seconds I was asleep.
In my dream I was walking in a forest. It looked familiar but I couldn't quite place it. As I walked I kept getting the feeling that someone was watching me. I looked back several times, just to make sure, and there was no one there. Still, I continued walking until I found a tunnel. I couldn't help but run down it laughing like a three year old. But when I got to the end of the tunnel I almost ran back. Two or three men in lab coats stood there. I stumbled back and tried to crawl away backwards. The scene began to change. This time the room was hospital white. I was strapped to a table. I struggled to free myself, but to no avail. A door opened and one of the lab coat guys came in.
"Stay still now. This won't hurt a bit."
Then blackness.
I opened my eyes a slit. Masky's face was about an inch away from mine.
"AH!" I sat up so suddenly that Masky fell back too, "You gave me a mini heart attack!" Masky was laughing too hard to answer. Slowly a smile began to form on my face, then I started to giggle, then just full out laughing. It felt good to just laugh. Not with any insanity or harshness to it but just good natured laughing.
I realized how much I missed it.
