I watched, feeling useless, as Jenn sprinted into the forest. With every step that she took the more the fire grew. Masky stood next to me, staring at the flames that caught onto other trees yet didn't burn.
"So this is what he was talking about." He said to no one in particular.
"What who was talking about?" Ben poked his head in between us.
"Nothing." Masky looked down.
"Uh uh no more of this. Who have you been talking to?" I poked him in the side. Masky took a breath in and exhauld it out slowly.
"You're not going to believe me but, I have Toby's ghost following me around." He looked to his side. And surprisingly there was, Toby. He looked alive, for the most part. Excpet for the fact that he was paler than he used to be.
"Toby?" I asked. He looked startled. As if he didn't think that I'd be able to see him.
"Woah. You can see me? Awesome! Thanks big man!' Toby pointed to the cieling and smiled.
"So you told Masky that something like this was going to happen?" Ben looked at the fire again, "Then why didn't......"
"I didn't exactly know what he was talking about. You were practically speaking another language." Masky put his hands on his hips and glared at Toby. It was such a gesture that reminded me of Jenn that I near;y cried.
"Nr. Nun ich spreche eine andere Sprache." Toby grinned and leaned over to the side.
"Dude I have no idea what you just said." Clockwork suddenly said behind us. She smiled at the sight of Toby.
"We have to go after Crook. We can't waste any time." Masky pulled at my arm.
"Wait, we don't know if it's safe. She could be dangerous." Clockwork pulled me back.
"Crooks not dangerous." Toby lightly punched her in the arm. Something they used to do before Clockwork disappeared, "You guys really need to go. If you need me I'll have Masky let me know." Toby winked at us.
"Okay. Let's get moving. Bye!" Ben dragged me and Masky along.
"She definitely went this way." Masky glanced at a path made by Jenn.
"This is going to be a lot like Frozen isn't it?" Ben asked.
"Yeah well except no one's heart is going to get frozen and Jenn's going to come home with us no problem." I made a pathetic attempt to smile.
"That's the attitude Anna had and look where it got her." Masky pointed out.
"That doesn't mean-" We were interrupted by a kid sitting in the middle of the path. It was a small boy, about twelve. He had black hair and pale skin. His eyes were completley black. (wow wouldn't have guessed Jeff. -M-. Jeff: Shut up)
"Jeff get Ben and circle around." Masky approached the kid cautiously.
"The target's lost. She let it go. The plan's been shattered." He said to no one. I grabbed Masky's arm and we ran off the path into the woods. The fire's began to get less and less more frequent and the aura around the place wasn't fear. It was freedom. For some reason I just felt free. I shook my head trying to get the thought out of my head.
"This place feels, different." Ben marveled at some gold patches on a tree.
"Yeah." I sighed. Soon we came at the edge of the cornfield.
"Look." Masky pointed to some singed and wilted stocks, "We're going to have to go in." He backed away as if it was Jane herself.
"You'll be okay. If we just stay on the path that Crook made we'll be just fine." Ben came to the entrance and looked in, "Seems pretty safe to me." I put my hand on Masky's shoulder and pushed him forward a little. I entered the cornfield last.
To be honest Masky wasn't the only one on edge. Last time I'd been here was when we had to find Masky after he was dragged away by Alex once. And I'll tell you that guy was practically more psychotic than me. And that's really saying something. We walked for a good half an hour before losing the trail. God she'd gone in deep! Then we came across a large, deep, and terrifying trench.y\
"Do you think she went to the side?" Masky asked.
"No. But we'll have to go down. Then get up the other side." I began to climb down.
"What are you doing?" Masky frowned.
"I'm. Going. To. Find. Jenn." I grunted
"Your going to kill yourself."
"You know what? I'm just gonna block you out." I lowered myself about three more inches.
"Hey guys! Guess what I found!?" Ben came running out of an area of cornstalks.
"What?" Masky sighed.
"I found a staircase!" Ben shouted.
"Thank goodness! Jeff come back out." Masky dropped down his hand. I grabbed it and he pulled me out. We followed Ben to where he had found the staircase. It was completely gold and led up to a building with one large tower rising out of the middle, "Just like the dream too."
"What?" Ben and I asked in unison. Masky blinked and explained.
"Three days ago I had a dream that had this building in it." He stared at the building and rubbing his eyes like he expected it to disappear at any moment. I began to ascend the stairs. There was a small stoop before two very large doors. I stood there for a few moments mustering up the courage to knock. Finally I did.
The sound seemed to echo in the halls as the doors opened. I almost expected to see Elsa at the door. But there was no one. Masky and Ben came behind me.
"You guys should probably wait out here." I turned to them. Both nodded without saying anything.
"Good luck." Ben waved and smiled.
I took a deep breath and entered the building. I stood in awe at the inside. Twin sets of staircases rose about twenty feet at the top. The place seemed to glow with it's own natural light.
"Hello?" I called.
"Jeff?" Jenn came from behind a wall at the top of the stairs. Her hair was in a long braid that ended at about her waist. She wore a goldish orange dress and a similar color cape. The top of her dress had lots of sparkles. Black strings tied around her shoulders kept the top of the dress on. She was beautiful.
"Wow. You look, different. It's a good different but just wow. And this place, it's amazing." I smiled.
"Thank you." Jenn smiled back, "I never really knew what I was capable of."
"I'm sorry about what happened if I'd had known-" I began. Jenn backed away.
"No no. You don't have to apologize, but you should probably go." Jenn looked a little guilty.
"Jenn, please. Come back with us." I pleaded.
"Jeff, you belong at the mansion."
"Well so do you."
"No, my place is here. Alone. Where I can be who I am, and I sound a lot like Elsa." Jenn gave me a sad look. Just then Ben threw open the doors.
"C'mon guys! Enough with the Froz-" He stopped when he saw Jenn, "Wow." Masky poked his head in and stared at her in the same way.
"We were so close before all of this. We can be like that again." I sounded just like Anna. Holy crap this really was something like Frozen! Jenn's seemed to smile but she jerked back and shook her head.
"No, we can't. Goodbye Jeff." She turned and began to walk up a separate set of stairs.
"Jenn wait!"
"I'm just trying to protect you!"
"You don't have to!" I ran after her, leaving behind Ben and Masky. Before I left I saw Masky mouth 'good luck'.
Heyo! So yeah sounding a little familiar? Yes? No? Maybe? IDK? Well whatever, I think the next chapter is Masky's POV. Yeah I think so.
Peace, Love, and LET IT GO!,
