Oh I am going to love writing the next few chapters!
The next few days were pretty uneventful. Jenn took us back to the palace and gave us an 'official' tour as well as fixing up some things. The fire elemental was at first reluctant to let us in, but Jenn spoke to him in a language that I didn't understand. The only person who could was Observer. But I doubted that he would tell me.
"So how did you know you could do this?" Masky asked.
"I just tried to see if I could and it turns out I can do it!" Jenn smiled as she made another swirly design on the wall. I couldn't help but notice little symbols intertwined in certain designs on the walls. One caught my attention right away. The operator symbol. Next the Observer symbol (it's really called something else but since Observer is the only one who actually knows the name of the thing we just call it the Observer symbol.)
"Hey where did Ghost Toby go?" Ben looked around, "I haven't seen him since our fight with the Black Eyed Whatevers." We all looked at Masky but he just shrugged.
"My best guess is that he went to wherever Clockwork went to. You know those two were once inseparable." He leaned against a wall, "How did you manage to run up all those stairs when they came after you?"
"I just didn't think about it. All I was thinking of was survival." Jenn shrugged. She started up the stairs and motioned to us, "Come on I want to show you guys the view from the balcony!"
The sight was beautiful. From there you could see from miles around. The cornfield, the forest, even the top of the mansion. The one thing that bothered me is that in the middle of the woods there was a tiny trail of smoke.
"Is it a forest fire?" I asked. Jenn shook her head.
"No it's too small. More like a camp fire. I'll see if I can get a better view." With a wave of her hand gold steps came out of the side of the wall. She began to ascend them, but turned back to us, "Well you wanna see who's there or not?"
"Coming. Coming." Observer raised his hands up in defense. We climbed up the new set of stairs and soon found ourselves on a newly made observation post. From here we could see small figures running around what I could only guess was a bonfire.
"What the hell?" Ben leaned over the railing.
"Good thing I always bring binoculars with me." Observer smiled and handed Jenn the binoculars. She looked long and hard at the bonfire in the woods.
"Well, we have a problem." She gave them back to Observer and he looked through the them.
"Uh yeah. We do." He handed them to me and I looked through. Around the bonfire were hundreds of black eyed kids. One of them was standing in front of the rest holding binoculars.
"Jane." I muttered, "It always has to be Jane."
"I wonder...." Jenn looked up at the sky, then smiled and shook her head, "Nah that's stupid there's no way."
"What's stupid?" Ben asked.
"I just thought, maybe we could use this castle building whatever as an emergency hideout if we need one." She shrugged.
"Crook that's actually a pretty good idea." Masky leaned over the railing slightly.
"Oh and there could be this thing that we show the guard guy that will tell him that we're with you!" Ben jumped up and down.
"Yeah.....but what would it be?" I asked.
"How about a necklace type thing?" Jenn suggested.
"There should only be two made, just to be safe." Observer suggested.
"Hmm. A necklace for Crook and a bracelet for Jeff?" Masky glanced at us.
"Good idea. I'll make them later. Anyone got a pen?" Jenn looked around.
"I do." Ben tossed Jenn a pen. She wrote on her arm, make necklace and bracelet for entrance into base.
"Well, what now?" I leaned against the railing.
"Right now.....let's go warn Slender and then eat food." Ben pointed up at the sky for no reason.
"Sounds like a plan. Lez go!" Jenn started down the staircase but stopped and looked back at us, "How much time do you think we have?"
"Have until what?" Masky asked.
"Until Jane and her army of demon children attack. Now that she knows we know we may not have much time." Then she turned away and continued going down the stairs. I shuddered and followed. We had to move quickly, not because I was scared of the impending doom that she implied. Or because the clouds suddenly looked terrifying.
It was because Jenn was right.
