Rufus interrupted the dance announcing a toast, thanking his job and everyone for another successful year, Lucy and Wyatt nodded gratefully at Rufus when he mentioned them. He then gestured to a second dining hall where he could apparently fit around twenty five in there, he'd put out name tags thankfully Lucy was placed beside Wyatt and Rufus's brother, Kevin. He was a sweet kid, loved basketball and he seemed to have a lot of respect for his brother. Wyatt and Lucy listened to his story about basketball politely even though they both hated the sport.
Wyatt gave Lucy a look and she smiled knowingly.

"Hey, uh kid?" Wyatt started, making Rufus's brother look around Lucy to see what Wyatt wants, cutting off his story in the middle of it. "Lucy's mum wants her home by ten, so I'd best get her back."

"Hey!" Lucy exclaimed, glaring and slapping Wyatts arm, she looked to Kevin, "I don't have to be back by ten, he's lying, I'm a grown woman, I don't have a curfew."

Wyatt frowned at he for dismissing their way to escape the rest of the story, but he couldn't stay mad long. It wasn't his strength, staying mad was more of a Lucy thing. He lifted the glass of whiskey Rufus had poured for him, cradling it in his hands before lifting it to his lips. Kevin turned back to Lucy shrugging their conversation off and asking Lucy about her work, making her fidgety, unsure how much she was allowed to say, or how much Rufus wanted him to know. Lucy glanced at Rufus who was at the head of the table, tucking happily into his food, Jiya on his right and his mum on his left, Kevin beside her. Wyatt dived in and saved her from her stammering answers.

"Top secret work, mate, we're not sure how much we're aloud to tell you." Wyatt told him and Lucy gave Kevin and smile and a nod.

"Oh. That's exactly what Rufus says." The teen replied, unhappy with the response. "I think it's awesome though—how you guys are all like undercover all the time, unable to say things. I might ask to join one when I get older."

"No." Wyatt and Lucy said in unison, a little to loudly, capturing the attention of Rufus and the others sat near them, Wyatt and Lucy looked at each other awkwardly.

"I mean, it's great but working for the job we do...it's..." Lucy began, trying to think of how to put it.

"Dangerous. Lucy got shot. Almost died." Wyatt finished for her, making her glare at him, she knew the curiosity of teens, she was an ex-teacher of course, she waited for the question from Kevin. Wyatt had expected him to drain of colour and be put off the subject instantly but Lucy knew that wouldn't happen.

"Cool! Can I see the scar?" Kevin asked, looking at Lucy expectantly.

"I'm still healing, besides I was shot in the side, I couldn't show you the scar even If I wanted too." Lucy muttered, hating that Wyatt put her in this situation, but it wasn't pushed to the back of her mind that Wyatt was basically squished beside her, away from one of Rufus's cousin, Anita. She seemed lovely yet Wyatt had a distaste for her.

"Well...next time you come around, wear a top and then you can show me!" Kevin suggested, making Lucy shuffle uncomfortably.

"I'd rather keep it covered, it's not pretty." Lucy said her voice quieter than usual, Wyatt noticed the change in her volume and instantly sensed she hated this line of conversation.

"I'll show you one of mine instead, nasty one this was," Wyatt murmured as he forced his shirt to hold up revealing his skin near his stomach, Lucy couldn't help but look, letting out a small gasp at the large bumpy, pink skin close enough to his side. Lucy's was much smaller and yet it hurt like hell, she couldn't imagine how Wyatt's had felt like. Kevin was fascinated.

"How? When?—awesome!" Kevin exclaimed, making Lucy crinkle her eyebrows, not understanding how it was awesome.

"Wyatt, I'm so sorry, that...I mean, it's worse than mine." Lucy said softly, placing her hand over his pulling his shirt back down over the scar, her eyes meeting his. He could see the sincerity in her eyes, the caring clear in her brown irises and he gave her a shy smile. His hand remaining in hers under the table.

"It's what you get when your in a war I guess, no need for sorrys, it doesn't hurt anymore." Wyatt shrugged, but the tight squeeze on Lucy's hand told her different, those scars—they were reminders. Lucy didn't bring it up again, knowing it was probably a sensitive subject.
She grimaced at her half roasted turkey on her plate, she'd never really been a turkey person, so it made her weird on thanksgiving. She'd have a chicken whilst everyone else would eat turkey.
Wyatt saw her look of disgust and smirked.

"Afraid it'll come alive and beat you up for eating it?" Wyatt chuckled playfully but Lucy rolled her eyes with a sigh.

"I just don't like turkey, thats all," Lucy muttered quietly, not wanting to offend Ms Carlin who'd cooked it. "I'm not usually a fussy person, except when it comes to turkey."

"I'll have it then, we don't want to be those guests who wastes food." Wyatt whispered glancing side to side, but everyone had their heads down eating. He edged closer to Lucy, took her turkey and went back to eating as if he'd never taken anything. Lucy shook her head with a smile.

"Thank you, Wyatt."

"No problem." Wyatt shrugged, giving her a side grin. Kevin spoke up, glancing between the two.

"So you two are like, together? Or do you have like a thing for each other?" Kevin asked, making the entire table stop eating when Wyatt practically choked on the piece of turkey, Lucy's eyes bugged out. Both their cheeks flushing nervously.

"Kevin! I'm sorry about him, teenagers are nosey." Ms Carlin apologized with a little laugh. Lucy just gave her a anxious smile, Wyatt finished swallowing the turkey and looked up his eyes on Lucy and the others.

"No, no, it's—it's fine, no uh-we're not together." Lucy replied, Kevin raised a brow, not buying it.

"So, you have a thing for each other?"

"No, not that either." Wyatt interrupted, feeling like he wanted to strangle the boy, but he held back, baring a forced smile.

"Well what was all that dancing and showing up together then? It seemed to me that you were together." Kevin asked, placing a carrot in his mouth, and looking for answers, Wyatt gave a warning glare to Rufus he usually did when he wanted Rufus to shut up.

"Well you were wrong, kid." Wyatt said through gritted teeth, Kevin still didn't seem to take the hint, he just smirked knowing he'd agitated both Lucy and Wyatt.

"Then what was all that hand holding under the table?" Kevin said it with such glee as though he'd just solved a riddle he'd been working on for weeks. Lucy raised from the table, looking to Rufus. Unsure if she was aloud to just wander off in this house. But Rufus nodded, giving her an apologetic glance and she scurried off, her cheeks still bright pink from embarrassment. She used to  love children, but sometimes, she hated the things.
