They let out a sigh in sync as they closed the door of their room, the had two twin beds in one room and a bed in a separate room, turns out the room didn't cost as much as you'd think, just a couple handfuls of shillings. Lucy quite liked this room more than the others they'd had to stay in, she knew she shouldn't care about the room but she was just glad it had a working clean bathroom, polite maid and a soft mattress.
She had admired the delicate paintings that were hung around the room, most by painters she'd never heard of but yet they were beautiful. Sometimes she wished she had a talent like art, or at least dancing, but she knew she couldn't barely draw a stick man, let alone dance without looking like a idiot. Something else she loved about the room was its odor, now usually every room they'd stayed in had a certain smell, a strong foul smell that she could never put her finger on. But this room smelt of a sort of fresh cookies, maybe bread, she wasn't sure but she liked it, much more than the previous smells anyway.
Wyatt and Rufus didn't seem to care about how nice the room was, they were focused on the mission as she knew she should be. But she couldn't help but stop and admire everything she saw. It was all so...different ...unique.
She'd brought up the room several times but she never got a response from them."Come on, I know we almost died but you've got to appreciate this room," She earned herself a glare from both of the boys, "What? I'm being serious, it's like a perfect little room!"
"Well don't get used to it." Wyatt said coldly. Lucy rolled her eyes, knowing he was angry for missing Flynn and letting yet another day pass without finding out what they were doing here. He pulled off his shoes letting out a happy groan, happy to free his feet. Lucy grinned she knew he was feeling how she felt when she took off heels after wearing them all day. He caught her grin and his cold expression softened. "Sorry, I didn't mean to snap—I just miss 2017."
"I understand, I miss my mum." Lucy said, hoping she didn't sound like a homesick child who'd left home alone for the first time. Wyatt just smiled at her then glanced over at Rufus who was nibbling his nails, Wyatt could tell he was anxious. "Rufus?"
"The recorder died." The told them, not meeting their eyes. Wyatt and Lucy exchanged glances, they weren't to bothered about the recorder being dead as he was. They hated the feeling of them being listened to. Rufus sighed, knowing they didn't understand why he was so anxious. "If the recorder dies and they think I've messed around with it then my family is dead. I don't know what's going on back in 2017 now, I mean, we've been gone weeks, I bet Rittenhouse are impatient...I don't want to go back and—"
"You won't. They're going to be safe and sound when you get back Rufus, just as you left them." Wyatt interrupted, staring at Rufus. He knew how it felt to lose someone you love. To lose family. He didn't want that for Rufus, so he made a decision. "Your not going to lose them because you're going back."
"I'm doing what now?" Rufus asked, looking at him as if he'd grew a tail, Lucy placed her head in her hands, she knew what Wyatt was getting at it wasn't exactly his greatest plan he'd come up with.
"You're going back to 2017, handing in that recorder, getting another one, making sure your family's ok and getting back here. But you've got to promise you'll be as fast as possible, if Flynn leaves and you're not back then me and Lucy will have no reason to be here. So come back for us." Wyatt explained, ignoring the crazy look Rufus was giving him. "It's the only way you can check on your family and get a new recorder. It's that or you can wait to see what happens in 2017 which might not be for another couple of days."
Rufus hated it, it was a crazy plan. He knew Christopher and Mason wouldn't be too pleased him arriving alone. But he needed to make sure his family were safe. They were his number one priority. He let out a groan and agreed. He pulled his waistcoat back on, preparing to try and blend in until he reached the Lifeboat. Lucy got to her feet, pulling Rufus in an embrace, giving him a friendly tight squeeze, Rufus hugging her back.
"Be safe." Rufus told her, but looked to Wyatt too, meaning both of them. "I'll be back as soon as possible."
"Give your mum a hello from me, we'll see you soon." Lucy smiled up at him, stepping out of the hug and straightening her dress, Rufus nodded. Wyatt stepped towards him, clapping his back.
"Make sure they're safe, then come get us, even if Mason says something different. Christopher is in charge remember? She'll let you come back for us." Wyatt advised him, holding his shoulder.
"I wouldn't leave my team behind, I'll see you soon." Rufus told them and turning and leaving. Lucy looked to Wyatt, it was just her and him now, the thought made her stomach do little somersaults.
"I have a feeling that was a really bad idea." Lucy muttered, walking to the window and watching down at the busy streets as Rufus maneuvered around the people, heading to the direction they'd parked the Lifeboat.
"Me too, but I wasn't going to let him lose his family." Wyatt said, his voice low and soft, unlike it had been before. He ran a hand through his brown locks and dropped down on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. Lucy just smiled lovingly down at him, he cared so much for the ones around him and she couldn't help but think that made her like him even more. Other than the cute flirtatious smirk that made it's way across his lips as he looked at her, she felt her cheeks heat up at the look. "I'm glad you weren't shot again."
"I'm glad you weren't shot either," Lucy spoke, her eyes dancing around the room, shifting her feet on the floor. She hated the dress she'd had to wear, it scraped the floor as she walked and she couldn't see her legs, it was like they were buried in a hundred feet of sand. She forced her eyes to drift over to Wyatt, just as he started unbuttoning his shirt. She felt her eyes widened, watching him, if she thought she was blushing hard just now, then that was nothing compared to right now. Wyatt saw her watching him and gave her another smirk and a light chuckle. Lucy dragged her eyes up to meet his. "I-I—I think I'll, uh, go ask Mrs Weston what, what's for tea." She stammered, squeezing her eyes closed to try to concentrate on what she was trying to say without Wyatt distracting her, she could feel a knot forming in her stomach, making her want to open her eyes and take another look, but she forced herself to keep herself together.
Wyatt pulled his white tank top, he usually wore to bed over his head and nodded. "Don't go gossiping about me whilst you're at it, I don't need her asking if I can take my shirt off." Lucy wanted to curl up and die, he must've heard her and Mrs Weston talking about Wyatt the other night, it was a harmless conversation really, Mrs Weston just asked if they were together and Lucy said no, Mrs Weston had just told her the chemistry between her and Wyatt was undeniable, making Lucy comment with a well Wyatt is a sweet guy, attractive too. She hadn't meant for him to hear that, although she wasn't really sure how much he'd heard. So she just let out a breathy, nervous laugh and rushed out of the room before Wyatt could take off any other piece of clothing.
