For Wyatt, Saturday came all too soon. He didn't understand why Rufus had to have a Christmas party a week early, and he didn't get why he had to dress nice, although, those were Lucy's orders not Rufus's. He straightened his blazer, wiping off the odd speck of dust, tightened his tie and walked to a mirror. He scanned himself, checking he looked ok, he shifted the little red square napkin in his pocket, Lucy advised him to wear it because it added a splash of colour, besides red was a Christmas colour.
Lucy had refused to show Wyatt hers, even though he made her wait most likely more than an hour for her to pick one, try it on, then buy it. He didn't see why she hadn't shown him, she'd practically picked his suit for him.
He sprayed his usual cologne, grabbed his car keys then headed out.
Lucy had insisted Wyatt picked her up to take her to Rufus's, he was wary it might be awkward if he escorted her there if Noah was at the house, but Wyatt wasn't too bothered. He tapped lightly on her door, waiting patiently for someone to answer."Wyatt! Hello again!" Carol beamed, leaning in to give him a hug, wyatt smiled and hugged her back.
"Hi Carol, how are you?" Wyatt asked knowing even though he hated small talk, he was going to have to until Lucy appeared. Carol seemed happy enough to talk.
"I'm wonderful thank you, you give Rufus my best now won't you?" Carol smiled, moving into the kitchen, leaving Wyatt in the doorway. He could hear a faint conversation between Carol and Lucy, smiling when he heard Lucy let out a sigh, say her goodbyes to her mother and appear around the corner, stunning Wyatt. He studied her, practically speechless.
"Whoa. Lucy—you look—you look beautiful." Wyatt managed to get out, his eyes meeting hers, her cheeks rosy at the compliment. The dress was a slick, red knee length dress, a lace top half, sleeves that cut off at the elbows and her hair curled lightly over her shoulders. She had classic red lipstick to go with the dress and eyeliner which made her brown eyes stand out even more.
"Thank you," Lucy breathed, putting her little black purse over her shoulder, it was her turn to look at Wyatt, a smile stretching across her lips. "I guess I've got a good eye for suits."
"What? No compliment for me? I might not look as good as you but a mans got to have a compliment." Wyatt smirked, Lucy lolled her head at a tilt, looking Wyatt up and down then meeting his blue eyes, which seemed to be shining brighter than usual tonight.
"You look handsome, you might just be the cutest person at this party. Hows that?" Lucy giggled, Wyatt knew she was joking with him, that she really did like him in a suit. Lucy turned to the direction of the kitchen calling to her mother. "I'll see you tonight mum!"
"Goodbye sweetie, goodbye Wyatt, have fun!" Carol called back.
"Goodbye Carol." Wyatt called, holding out his arm for Lucy to take, "let me escort you to the car, make sure you don't fall flat on your face in those what? Ten inch heels? Can't have me turning up to the party with you looking like you'd just had a boxing match."
"Oh, how sweet you are." Lucy said sarcastically, closing the door and taking Wyatt's arm, "You know, wouldn't it be great if I were to trip you up right now, and your face to fall flat in mud?"
"Oh, what like this?" Wyatt pretended to push Lucy, she let out a little yelp clinging to Wyatt, smacking his arm.
"Don't do that!" She cried, feeling like she'd just had a heartattack. Wyatt thought it was hilarious, laughing his head off as they walked, Lucy wore a scowl on her face.
"Aw, come on, don't ruin the look, where's that pearly smile gone?" Wyatt cooed, giving her a puppy eyed look, but Lucy just frowned at him.
"It left when you tried to throw me in the mud." Lucy muttered, trying to stay mad but she could see from the corner of her eye that Wyatt was giving her that flirtatious smirk he always gave her. She cleared her throat, trying so hard not to smile. Wyatt opened the passenger side for Lucy. "Thank you."
"You're very welcome, babydoll. I've got to be a gentlemen for someone like you, haven't I?" Wyatt smiled, heading around to the drivers seat and starting up the car, it roared to life and they headed for Rufus's. Lucy felt her cheeks warm up.
"You can stop with the flirting now, you're not terrible at flirting." Lucy said trying to sound in a huff, but she was failing and she knew it. Wyatt grinned happy with her words, he looked over at her, the bright Christmas lights people had put up shining brightly in her eyes, making it look like there were stars in them. He wasn't lying when he said Lucy was beautiful, sure Jessica had been beautiful and he loved her so much, he always would but Lucy was something different, she made him feel a different love, something more powerful than what he'd felt for Jessica. But he didn't know how to tell Lucy that, especially when everyday their lives were at stake, it'll just hurt even more if one of them were to get killed during one of their missions.
Wyatt had told himself when he started this, after their first mission, not to get attached, he knew those consequences, you get attached and you lose someone, you'll feel that pain forever. He was told that in the army too, but he just couldn't follow that rule, he just couldn't help getting attached. And he knew he was attached to Lucy, he felt something for her that he was sure was more than friendship, even Rufus could see it.
