Wyatt made himself comfortable in his seat, smiling over at Lucy as she struggled with the many straps, the familiar frustrated look on her face appearing. Wyatt grinned leaning forward, helping to buckle her in, it was simple for him, he'd gotten used to the complicated belts in the military so he solved them as if they were as simple as laces.
"We're going home." Lucy mumbled almost in disbelief, her voice only just above a whisper.
"Hard to believe, huh?" Wyatt agreed, knowing exactly how she felt, they'd both dreamt of going home, they weren't ever sure they were going to see 2017 again, or if this, right now, was a dream. it seemed they were both thinking the same thing. In sync they both pinched themselves, wincing at the tiny, sharp pain.
"Guess it isn't a dream." Wyatt smirked, leaning back in his seat, letting out a breath. The Lifeboat shook to life, clearly happy to be used again. In no time it was back to throwing them through time, landing them safely in the middle of Mason Industries. No doubt everyone outside of the Lifeboat were gobsmacked by the sudden appearance of their once lost machine. Rufus switched off everything as he usually did, then opened the hatch, he was the first to climb out, happy to finally leave the machine he'd been stuck in god know how long. Jiya's legs never moved so fast, in milliseconds she collided with Rufus, looking exhausted, as though she hadn't slept in weeks, which Rufus doubted she did. But all that tired expression vanished at the sight of Rufus, she clung to him as if in any moment he was going to be ripped away from her.
Lucy couldn't believe it, by the looks of it Wyatt didn't either. They still sat in their seats, their belts unbuckled but both of them still taking that they'd made it home. They stared at each other eventually pulling themselves to their feet, Lucy didn't hesitate when she stood face to face with him in the Lifeboat. Wyatt had no time to react when Lucy latched herself to him, he felt his cheeks warm at the loving hug and immediately returned the embrace, resting his chin on her head, smiling softly to himself.
"I'm going to see my mum." Lucy smiled, she'd been upset that she'd never had a chance to say goodbye to her mother before they'd stepped into the Lifeboat, they were too busy in another petty argument. But here she was...back in 2017 able to see her mum once more.
"I'll drive you." Wyatt said making her look up at him, she'd pulled away slightly but not enough so that she was out of his hold, her eyes laced with love. Agent Christopher cleared her throat, making the two part from each other, Lucy stepped back to quickly, almost tumbling back into her seat but Wyatt caught her hand and kept her upright just in time. Lucy ignored the fact that she was blushing furiously then Wyatt helped Lucy down, then getting down after her.
"You two haven't driven a car in weeks. No. I'll drop you both at Lucy's on my way home," Agent Christopher decided. "Welcome home."
"Thank you. It's good to be back I guess." Lucy took the risk and hugged Denise, she felt the woman tense, clearly not used to a hug from a friend, but she felt Christopher pat her back awkwardly, her way of showing she was glad they were back too.
"Right well, go change. No doubt your mothers anxious to see you." Christopher instructed meaning both Wyatt and Lucy. They nodded, heading to wardrobe to change. Lucy finally loosened her corset she'd been wearing everyday as she walked, letting out happy sigh.
"I can't wait to get back into my own clothes, my backs killing me being in this thing."
"Same, I'll see you in a minute." Wyatt nodded as they separated to change. It only took Wyatt moments before he was dressed, his old casual clothing on and he couldn't be happier. He finally felt like a normal person. It took Lucy s little longer considering she was wearing a dress, but she eventually pulled back the curtain and revealed herself in her woolly white jumper, leggings and converse. Finally able to move about freely. Wyatt smiled as Lucy did. "And enter Lucy Preston."
"Let's find Agent Christopher, she seems like the woman who hates waiting around." Lucy giggled, taking hold of Wyatt's hand and heading up the small steel stairs. The building was practically empty, they hadn't noticed it when they stepped out of the Lifeboat, the only people who were left were Agent Christopher, Rufus and under his arm, Jiya. As Denise saw the pair coming towards them hand in hand, she smiled, as did Rufus and Jiya. Lucy left Wyatt's side, going to Jiya who'd left Rufus to greet Lucy with a hug, happy she was ok.
Eventually Christopher ordered them to get in the car and the time for gossip was over seem as they weren't the only ones with families to get back too. Lucy clambered into the back seat beside Wyatt, lacing their fingers together, anxious to see her mum. Lucy finally reached her home, she thanked Christopher, Wyatt had thanked her for the lift too and they both staggered out of the car. Her hand stilled entwined with Wyatt's, she knocked on the door with her free hand, waiting for a response.
"Wouldn't it be awkward if she wasn't home?" Wyatt whispered, earning a nervous glare from Lucy, who was paranoid enough. "Got it, not the time."
Just as Lucy's eyes softened and she opened her mouth to respond the door opened and Lucy dropped the hold she had on Wyatt's hand and leapt at her surprised mother. Carol almost fell as her daughter embraced her, she held her back instantly, relieved that Lucy was ok, if their was one thing a mother wanted to know in their life, it was if their child was safe and ok. "I've missed you so much!"
"I've missed you too, I didn't know you were coming back today! It feels like you've been gone months!" Her mother beamed, still holding her daughter close, holding her shoulders watching her fondly then glancing over Lucy's shoulders, her eyes landing on a smiling blue eyed Wyatt. "Or that you were bringing home a guest."
"We didn't know we were coming back today either, we thought we'd be stuck there for a little while longer and my boss dropped Wyatt off with me, do you think he could stay for dinner? I'm dying for one of your cooked meals, I'm-we're starving." Lucy explained, looking over her shoulder at Wyatt, giving her a small yet sweet smile. Wyatt stepped forward, smiling at the pair.
"It's wonderful to see you again, Ms Preston."
Carol smiled pleasantly and looked between her daughter and Wyatt. "I'd be delighted to make dinner, come inside, tell me about this business trip that took you away from me for so many weeks, I know you can't tell me the details but its nice to hear something like it was gorgeous weather."
"It was...eventful?" Wyatt chuckled, earning a light laugh from Lucy, both of them sharing a knowing look.
