I could have sworn he was kidding around when he warned me about the other groups. Surely teams with such famous names would know how to act around a bunch of girls, but apparently you can't judge people based on their popularity.
I was one of the front leaders as we walked into the gym, along with Kuroo still by my side, while everyone else on our teams stayed in the back. Before, I never would have understood what made the girls so nervous about a bunch of boys teams, but now that I'm getting a better look out our new opponents, I began to understand.
There were guys there of all different sizes, either unnaturally tall or extremely muscular. I also seen some that barely even reached the middle of the net, but I've learned over the years that size had nothing to do with the skills the player possesses. Each team seemed to have a unique style all their own, and I understood what Etsuka was talking about on the bus. We have no idea what these teams are like, how they play, or how to beat them.
For the sake of everybody, I kept my head high as Kuroo jumps in to try and pry the watching eyes away. "What are you bastards looking at?" He growls teasingly to all the eager eyes before us. "You've never seen a girls volleyball team before?"
Their gazes instantly averted away as we were lead to an empty court on the side, where we could begin our practices before the real games started. Looking back at my team, I realized I didn't have to worry about anyone else cracking under the spotlight like Miyu. Heads were high and eyes brighter than ever, showing the true spirit of the Timber Wolves.
When we get to our net, I noticed another team practicing beside of us. I couldn't remember their name, but I recognized the orange and black colors of their jerseys. When I caught sight of the large black banner on the wall behind their court, I was able to recall the name. It read 'Karasuno High.'
"Daichi." Kuroo suddenly calls, and I look to see one of the older members from Karasuno, a third year by my guess, turning toward us. "Come meet the new captain."
This Daichi was one of the broad shouldered players I noticed before, with crisp, sun kissed skin and dark brown hair. He looked very mature, but judging by some of the younger members of his team, that was highly needed. "So this is the famous Katsushika school we've heard so much about." Daichi laughs, extending his hand for me to shake. "It's an honor to finally meet you guys."
He looked a bit nervous talking to me, like he was afraid he was gonna say something stupid. It was something I haven't seen in awhile, most teams back home just greeted us with angry glares. It was a good feeling now, having someone in front of me who didn't know about our past mistakes, so I eagerly reached out and took his hand, giving him a kind smile. "Akiraa." I responded, glad to see that he began to relax. "We're happy to be here."
Two other forms suddenly popped up behind the Karasuno captain, their curious eyes eager to get a better look at me. "Nice to meet you!" They both greeted, shouting so loud that it echoed to the other side of the gym.
One was a tall guy with a bald head, while the second was a much shorter kid with spiky brown hair and a single blonde streak above his forehead. "Come on, Daichi, introduce us already." The short kid urged, elbowing his captain playfully in the stomach.
The bald one just seemed too in awe to speak actual words. "So pretty..." He sighed, falling to his knees before me.
Humorously, he was pushed back by Daichi's muscular arms. "Will you two lay off? Their just another team." He sighs, pulling them both to their feet as they slide obediently to his side.
When they settled down, he continued. "Akiraa, this is Noya and Tanaka. Just for the future, I give you my sincere apologies for whatever they try to pull."
