Kuroo's POV
The next few days of the camp passed by in what seemed to be only a few minutes, and soon Nekoma was walking away winners from their last game of the trip. Honestly, at this point, nobody really cared about who got the victory, mostly because the smell of BBQ was already starting to flood the gym in strong waves. The floor itself was wet with drool as everybody began gravitating towards the intoxicating aroma leading outside, stomachs growling and mouths watering.
It was absolutely hilarious when the coaches revealed to teams that there would be a BBQ waiting for us after today's matches were over. The girls from Katsushika almost passed out at the news, and judging by how scary the were at dinner every night, this would certainly be a bloodbath once we make it out to the grills.
There was an explosion of howls suddenly as Katsushika charged for the exit, taking down any boys in their way, and even each other, like bulldozers to get to the food. A chuckle escaped my throat when I seen Akiraa at the front of the pack with Ren right by her side, the two seeming to be in a full speed run to see who could make it to the grills first.
My attention was soon reeled back in my a voice to the side. "Earth to Kuroo!" Someone exclaims, giving me a sharp slap on the shoulder to snap my head back into reality.
I didn't even get a chance to say anything before I feel a pair of hands on my back. "Hurry it along, old man!" Tora exclaims, pushing me forward on my heels. "Those wolves are going to inhale the food before we even get there!"
"Tora, it's not like there's only food for one team." Yaku growls, stomping past us with his tiny arms crossed. "If you're in that much of a hurry, just go on already."
Those words were a mistake. Only seconds after they left his mouth, there was a wave of red as our entire team takes the advantage and runs on ahead, not even worried about waiting for us. I didn't blame them, everybody has been looking forward to this feast since this morning, and Nekoma's growing friendship with Katsushika only made them snatch up any given chance for extra competition.
My stomach let out a loud roar as I made it outside, the sound of meat sizzling on the grill just reminding me of how much energy I needed to regain from all the matches we've played. Regular cafeteria food and water was starting to get old, and my taste buds craved a good meal.
I definitely wasn't the only one eager to get my hands on the fresh steak being smoked, a certain horned owl suddenly launches himself out of nowhere and leaps straight onto my shoulders, his drool already caking my arm. "How much longer is it going to be?" He asked, voice almost at full volume. "My insides are starting to eat themselves!"
"Sadly, it's not going to kill you to wait a few more minutes, Bokuto." Akaashi sighs as he approaches, thankfully reaching up and removing the heavy third year from my back.
Bokuto didn't seem to be the only one ready to burst from starvation. Just in front of us, Akiraa looked as if she was about to rip her poor manager apart. "You see that piece of rib on the grill?" She barks, pointing to a huge chunk of meat being covered with sauce. "It's mine! Just let anyone else try and grab it!"
"Will you calm down! This is embarrassing!" Kiyomi demands while snatching the salivating wolf back before she could lunge. Her glasses-wearing gaze then looks over to where my team stood, and before I could look away, she catches me staring. "You see it now, Kuroo? These girls are like pure-blooded carnivores!"
I hear Bokuto give a loud snort. "Please! There's nobody alive who can even compare their appetite to mine!"
"Wanna bet?" Akiraa challenges, stepping forward and placing her hands boldly on her hips. "You better know who you're picking a fight with, Owl Boy. I once went to a two dollar buffet and closed them down in ten minutes flat!"
