Kuroo's POV
Fresh sunlight flooded through the gym windows as the new morning awoke a whole new burst of energy. The teams had gathered early in the gym, already warming up for their practice matches and just messing around with each other in between. The only thing missing was the mix of red within the crowd.
After last night, me and the rest of the team ended ho staying awake for hours after the talk with Nekomata just to figure out what to do with the new information he provided. So much for getting the sleep I talked about...
As understood, we couldn't just confront Jiro openly, that would just reveal every secret we've been trying to keep from this guy. Our only hope was to catch him in the act. Just one word was all it took, just one threatening phrase.
I stood on the edge of my court with a few other Nekoma players, trying our best to act casual, but I still couldn't stop my eyes from aimlessly wander over to the girls court every now and then. We had to act normal for the time being, and when their game starts, taking Jiro's attention off everyone else, the plan would be put in motion.
It was clear to see that the Katsushika team was more on edge than they had ever been. Their eyes remained glued on their own court, not even daring to look at anyone else. I didn't even want to think about what Jiro had done to this this morning, but whatever it was, it must have worked.
My attention suddenly drifts to the other side of the girls court, where no other than Akiraa was practicing spikes with her setter, Shinobu. She was definitely in the worst shape compared to everyone else, not even giving that signature snarl that I had seen before when she spiked the ball. It wasn't fear that kept her from enjoying the game though, shown just by the flames illuminating within her eyes. What she felt was pure rage, but also acceptance that there was nothing she could do to fix the situation.
I was so busy watching Akiraa that I almost didn't notice the teasing whisper coming from just behind, the voice being too recognizable to overlook. "Kuroo and Akiraa sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G..."
My head swirls around to face Tora as he prepares for the next line. "First comes love, then comes marriage, then-"
"Then comes a rooster with a black eye." I hissed under my breath, causing him to shrink down under my stone cold gaze.
As he takes off running back to the net before I had a chance to drive my fist into his skull, a comforting hand finds its way onto my shoulder to help me relax. "Calm down, Kuroo." Kenma urges, pulling me back over the sidelines. "We still have a few more minutes till warm ups end. It's not like you can do anything until then."
"I can't help it." I snapped a bit too quickly for my liking. "What if Jiro doesn't do anything? This whole plan rests on him making a move, but he's smarter than that. What if a whole week goes by and we get nothing?"
"That won't happen, because I know you would refuse to give up that easily." Kenma pointed out, dropping his arms lifelessly to his side. "Akiraa means too much to you already for you to give up. Plus, it's what comes sit your thick head."
I throw him a sideways glare as he falls silent next to me, subtly glancing over to the girls court every now and then. "I don't have a thick head." I muttered silently, crossing my arms over my chest."
He didn't even hesitate before responding. "You do."
"I don't."
"You do." He defends again, still not even looking away from the court.
Before I could even open my mouth for another go, he turns and walks over to where Hinata and Lev stood by the Karasuno court, which was placed right next to Katsushika's. Thankfully, Lev had spoke to Hinata earlier today about what happened last night, and the kid gave us his word that he had kept it to himself. Same goes for Akaashi and Bokuto, who were now practicing on their own court while still stealing protective glances here and there at the girls.
