Everyone else around them seemed to grow more anxious the closer we got to the gym, as I had felt not long ago, but now that I was here at Kuroo's side, my unsettled insides were finally able to settle back down again. It was surely exciting to have a real chance to spend time with Nekoma, but he was one of the bigger reasons I have been counting down the seconds till this day arrived."I've been here since seven this morning. The captains called an emergency meeting about that whole mess you seen in the quad." I explained to him, our pace falling short behind the rest of our teams as we took these few minutes to ourselves. "I swear, this job is unbearable at times! Do you know how hard I had to fight not to throw my phone across the room when they called me that early? I could have killed them."
"Well, being a captain around here seems to be more tedious than it is at regular high schools." I hear Kuroo chuckle, shifting his hands around in the pockets of his jacket. It may have just been my own mind playing tricks on me, but it was almost as if I could sense he had something on his mind. "How long do you think it will take for the news to get back to you? I'd hate for you to be worrying all day about it..."
Oh... so that's what he was worried about? "I'm pretty certain that the board will get back to us within the next hour or two." I reassure, reaching up and setting a light hand on his arm. When his gaze then flutters to me, I meet it with a warm smile. "And even if they don't, nothing can keep me from our date tonight."
The grin that appeared on his face was worth the entire world, and I felt my heart practically explode in my chest when he drapes his arm over my shoulder to pull us closer together. While this was most enjoyable, I knew I could take this opportunity to pick at him a bit. "I mean, when am I ever gonna get chances like this to go into the city again?"
The speed in which his face fell made me break into another fit of laughter, only making my stomach cramps much worse from all the chuckling I did before while watching the soccer team. "I see what this relationship is to you, Nakeyama." He pokes humorously, sliding his arm down to my waist and completely closing the space between our bodies. "I'm just a way for you to not get lost around Tokyo."
"That's a big part of it, yes." I admit with a smirk, nudging him away with my elbow.
Nobody would ever understand how amazing it felt to have him by my side again, but there still one thing sitting in the back of my mind that continued to create a constant sense of unease. My eyes couldn't help but glance over at our teammates in front of us to see if anyone was looking our way, but thankfully they were all preoccupied with each other to notice us here in the back.
Jeez, being new to relationships really sucks sometimes. I am yet again reminded of how clueless I can be about these things. "Hey." Kuroo whispers in my ear, bringing my attention back to him as he begins to sense my sudden concern. "Is there something on your mind?"
That's one thing I was grateful for about our bond. We were already past the stage where we can tell when something's wrong without even having to ask. "It's nothing..." I insist, turning my head up to try and shake off the rising nerves. "I'm just still trying to figure out how to balance this whole being a captain and... whatever it is that we have now... thing..."
I had to choose my words carefully with that one, remembering that me and Kuroo, technically, weren't officially a thing yet. Neither of us have actually asked the magic question, which, I admit, is something that's been on my mind for a good while now.
I could feel his back stiffen at my not-so-casual dodge of the subject, and even if he quickly turned to hide it, I was still able to catch a glimpse of his face as it grew almost three shades redder.
I tried playing it off by just continuing my thought, clearing my throat to bring his attention to me again. "I mean, people with our kind of relationship should know when the right time is to act like they're... in a relationship... and the right time to not." I could feel myself already starting to babble. "We still have to focus on being captains, so should we make a rule or something where we can't really act like... all lovey-dovey in front of our teams? Is that something people do? There has to be one kind of rule book for this-"
